US President Donald Trump has tweeted that Russia should "get ready" for missiles to be fired at its ally Syria, in response to an alleged chemical attack near Damascus on Saturday.
"Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!'" Mr Trump said in his tweet.
Senior Russian figures have threatened to meet any US strikes with a response.
President Bashar al-Assad's government denies mounting a chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma.
In one his tweets on Wednesday, Mr Trump called the Syrian leader a "gas killing animal".
In another, he painted a dark picture of US-Russia relations but said it did not have to be that way.
The US, UK and France have agreed to work together and are believed to be preparing for a military strike in response to the alleged chemical attack at the weekend.

War time Presidents usually get yuge ratings.
If he’s telling them this it means he’s going to do the exact opposite.
Russia has been the benefactor of the Assad regime back to Assad’s father. They do not want the proposed UAE/Saudi pipeline to Europe to compete with them.
UAE/Saudi have funded the civil war to overthrow Assad to remove him as an obstacle.
But to answer your question, Syria and Russia have been trading partners for hundreds of years. Russia has financial interests in Syria as well as military interests. I think Russia is willing to allow Syria to behave badly and look the other way.
Because getting European countries involved with the disgusting attack on Libya worked out so well?
How come we're hearing NOTHING from Trump about skepticism? Before he was elected, he was extremely skeptical of global warmongering.
I suspect if he doesn't get the facts and attacks Syria without them, his administration is over. Announcing ahead of time he was taking troops out of Syria was a BIG mistake, one he said he'd never make.
Supposedly the British base in Cyprus will be used as part of the attack. If that is accurate, I trust Cyprus has thought it through. It will be very easy for Russia to attack that base.
Gas pipeline and naval access.
The Turks are on the Northern half of Cyprus.
Trump is a master of leverage. He has been gaining leverage on Putin for a while now and Putin is starting to weary of it.
His oligarch pals are losing $$$ fast and so is he.
I think Putin is ready to throw in the towel and abandon both Assad and the Iranian mullahs.
Putin realizes that he, along with Trump, are despised by the global deep-state.
They are engaged in a Kabuki dance now, look for the Iranian mullahs to be overthrown very soon and this will leave Assad pretty much alone without very aggressive Russian assistance...which will not be forthcoming.
There will be an arranged exchange of missiles and the rhetoric will become pretty wild for a day or two but I think this is all close to being finished.
Trump made two important tweets this morning, both were meant for Putin.
This one is the stick...
Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and smart! You shouldnt be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!
This one is the carrot...
Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?
You can discern what is going on from just these two tweets...
BTW: IMO, Gulf Cooperation Council special forces are on the ground in disguise as jihadi in both Syria and Iran and are working with Trump...they will take them down from the inside.
I predict Iran will once again become close to the US, as it was before the Iranian revolution....thank you Jimmy Carter, you damned fool!
“Donald J. Trump
Why do we keep broadcasting when we are going to attack Syria. Why can’t we just be quiet and, if we attack at all, catch them by surprise?
9:45 PM - 28 Aug 2013”
This like New Coke vs Classic Coke.
You don’t know if asshat was the one that used gas or not. Trump has better information then you do from multiple sources and countries. For you to act like you know more then Trump is pretty ridiculous behavior. IMHO.
> War time Presidents usually get yuge ratings. <
Very true, unless the war drags on (or goes bad). LBJ found that out.
Because Russia has the only real warm water naval port on the coast there.
You think we’d have learned something over the past twenty years, but no. We keep getting involved in quagmire after quagmire. I wonder would Trump have won, if he campaigned on being interventionist? This surely isn’t America First.
“Deferring to authority” fallacy. This low level thinking used to be weeded out in middle school.
I wonder why Russia was involved with Syria and Assad in the first place.

A big part of the reaon is protecting their economy and security. Russia needs the Syrian Port. They also want a pipeline going through Syria. Kinda like how we need the Panama Canal.
We have had troops in Panama since January protecting our interest, training whatever you want to call it.
USA and Saudi had plans for pipeline - Assad said no. Russia left us alone setting the rest of the Middle East ablaze, but there was no way Putin was going to allow that pipeline or loose that port. Really dumb to think they would just sit back and let it go.
USA shouldn’t even be in Syria-we armed terrorists to overthrow that Government - so the HRC/Obama crooks could make a buck. Look how many innocent people have been killed. The terrorists have butchered the Christians.
Clinton used the same playbook when he was President in Bosnia, with Marc Rich, arms and oil smuggler pardoned on last day Bill was in office. Money laundered through the Clinton Foundation.
Watch the Video it explains what’s going on pretty well.

I really hate to say this but I think Trump is out of his league.
He has lost control of the executive branch and is being led by the nose when it comes to foreign policy.
I would like to be wrong.
