U.S. Rep. Bill Foster told a community forum audience Monday the Second Amendment should be up for reinterpretation as new generations come into power.
"It always has been up for reinterpretation," Foster, D-Naperville, said. "The technology changes, and the weapons thought to be too dangerous to be in private hands change. A civil war cannon is frankly much less dangerous than weapons we are allowed to carry on the streets in many of the states and cities in our country today. This is something where technology changes and public attitude changes and both are important in each of the generations."
The event was held less than two months after a shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school left 17 students and school employees dead and spurred student movements across the country to tighten gun restrictions.
Two area high school students, Rohan Chakrabarty and Jacob Baron, who helped lead walkouts at their schools in response to gun violence last month, helped answer audience questions.
"It's up to generations to interpret parts of the Constitution," said Rohan, a senior at Metea Valley High School. "We should continue to progress our views on something like the Second Amendment."
Jacob Baron, a senior at Naperville North High School, grew up in Newtown, Conn., where 26 students and staff members where killed in a school shooting in 2012.
"Planning escape routes, ideal places to hide that's no way to go about my school day every single day," Jacob said.
"It's hard to not feel unsafe in school, especially with the culture of having lock-down drills every month."
"I firmly believe the student-led movement I've been able to take part in will instill a passion in my generation," he said.

The 2nd Amendment was written to allow citizens to have the same weapons as those that sought to tyrannize them. It's not about muskets, it's about maintaining our liberty.
U.S. Rep. Bill Foster took this oath of office:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
He has broken that oath. If hes married, Ill bet he broke that oath, too.
Very dangerous. They will gleefully send their minions and enforcers to kill people like us...
Here is how it works.
If the government (the British) have smooth bore muskets then it behoves the populace to have smooth muskets.
If the the government (deep state run military) has AR based platforms. Then it behoves The People now to have AR based platforms.
To be saddled with smooth bore muskets at this time would be foolish and defeat the purpose of the 2nd amendment. to keep the people free of encroachment by tyrannical controllers.
“The most accurate predictor of the rate of gun homicides, if you look at the statistics, is actually the number of guns per person in the state or in the community.
That is a blatant and demonstrable lie.”
Agree. I live in North Dakota, ground zero for waterfowl hunting. Hunting shotguns and rifles outnumber the population here, yet homicide is a very rare thing.
Love fly over country.
In their wisdom, the Founding Fathers did give us a method to "reinterpret" the Constitution-through an amendment process, but it's not a method that Democrats want to use. Instead, they expect to get their way through old men and women in black robes who will simply ignore the Constitution.
Bill Nelson is a fascist pig who needs to be fried like bacon.
War has been declared on the Constitution. Soon shots will be fired.
So yet another Constitutional illiterate purporting to be a leader.
London-Massive gun control had more homicides in February than New York City where guns are controlled but are also accessible.
Jamaica 43.21 homicide per 100K-Strict gun control. Island
Mexico 16.8
United States 4.88
But, keep spouting tripe to an easily led audience and they’ll vote for you.
That is a blatant and demonstrable lie.
I hats what proggies do. Always.
The most accurate predictor of the rate of gun homicides, plainly known to anyone with an IQ above room temperature, is demographics.
Foster can kiss my ass.
As they come to realize they are being lied to again by pollsters the evil donkey is appealing to the craziest of their crazies with dreams of repealing the Second Amendment.
In my interpretation I can now own slaves. Thats what I read in the 13th Amendment.
I just sent Foster a tweet comparing USA to Jamaica and told him 2A isn’t subject to his interpretation.
That is a blatant and demonstrable lie.
Actually, hes right. More guns, less crime.
I wouldn’t be surprised. Like an actor who had a second family while married is famous for saying the line, in multiple films, “I lied”.
The unarmed sheep and the police state can try to disarm those who believe in the rule of law. I will not wish them luck, not when the Constitution means what it says, and not when they are attempting to violate the most fundamental of all God-given rights.
“Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”
- Chairman Mao Zedong (frequently quoted among communists to inspire their disarmament of normal people)
This man is an idiot. His political future is established.
He does not say whether the rate is positive or negative. The correlation is actually negative. The more guns the less homicides.
Nonetheless; just another Leftist making things up.
