The FBI raided the offices of President Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen on Monday.
The raid came after federal prosecutors in New York City obtained a search warrant following a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, Cohen's lawyer told the New York Times. Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and related issues.
NBC News confirmed news of the raid.
The Times reported that FBI agents seized records relating to several issues, including a $130,000 payment Cohen has said he made to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Daniels has said that money was given to her in exchange for her agreement to keep quiet about an affair she had with Trump that began in 2006. The White House has denied that Trump had sex with Daniels, and Trump has said he was unaware of the deal Cohen made with her.
In addition to records related to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, FBI agents also seized emails, tax documents and business records, according to the Times, which cited a person briefed on the search.
Cohen is an executive vice president and general counsel of the Trump Organization.
It was not immediately clear where the raid occurred. Vanity Fair reported that FBI agents on Monday visited a room at the Lowes Regency Hotel in Manhattan, where Cohen has been staying and executed the warrants.
Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said, "Today the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients. I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller."
"The decision by the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York to conduct their investigation using search warrants is completely inappropriate and unnecessary," Ryan said.
"It resulted in the unnecessary seizure of protected attorney client communications between a lawyer and his clients. These government tactics are also wrong because Mr. Cohen has cooperated completely with all government entities, including providing thousands of non-privileged documents to the Congress and sitting for depositions under oath."
Trump's spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CNBC that the White House has no comment on the raid.
Spokesmen for the FBI's New York field office and for Mueller did not immediately respond to CNBC's requests for comment.
Another 450,000 behind us would be a good second wave.
The swamp is so wrapped up in it’s own little world, it does not recognize yours and other patriots’ sentiments. So it maybe sooner than they realize.
Affair that began in 2006? I thought it was one night? Was it New Year’s Eve?
I will bring enough chewing gum and knitting tools for everyone.
First time that Ive heard that sex with a whore referred to as an affair!
Bwahahaha
Next they will find out that when Donald Trump was 12 years old he gave 5 bucks to a Russian for some baklava
A lawyer-client relationship is not sacrosanct if there is evidence that the lawyer and the client are co-conspirators in a crime.

It is not sacrosanct but the privilege is Constitutionally based and requires high level DoJ approvals before the search can occur. In this case, it appears the Deep State is using Daniels like they used Carter Page as a ruse to rummage through Cohen’s and Trump’s documents. My guess is that Cohen is going to rip them a new one. Let’s have the names of those who were in the chain of approvals for this search.
Mueller is a disgrace! No one but the fake news give a rip about that porn woman. What a bunch of desperate attacks by the cabal. I think we’re going to need a bigger gallows.
LOL
Q , “ We got them right where we want them.
Relax.
We Know All.
Sealed Indictments.
They Know. “
Ahh f**k off Q.
Baklava is not Russian.
.
What they will probably document is Ms Daniels attempted blackmail and extortion of Donald Trump
They will also possibly discover investigative information tying her to Democrat operatives and possibly the Clintons
I seriously doubt that Cohen and Trump are stupid enough to leave a paper trail that Mueller can use against them
So you admit how difficult it is and understand for multiple reasons Trump could not walk in and simply fire everyone in sight. This isn't a private sector warehouse where a manager can walk in fire anyone he pleases for any reason whatsoever. This isn't the private sector were talking about.
You're not going to get the swamp drained in 1 year, after nearly 30 years of total corruption from both parties. You can complain about it all ya want, but it'll take more time regardless of how much you complain.
Backdoor into ALL of Trump`s records.” We were only looking at the whore payments but look what else we found ! “.
Same tactic they used to spy on him when they got a warrant on Carter Page to backdoor listen on Trump.
Well it does taste good :-)
It certainly does——your post made me hungry.
.
“It sounds like Mueller is trying to provoke Trump into firing him.”
My take also. It’s a trap to charge him with obstruction of justice.
Next time I go to the Jewish market near my house will have to get me some :-)
