WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Sean Doolittle and Eireann Dolan almost wore nearly identical shoes to a photo shoot last week. Most major league players dont argue with their wife over who gets to wear Birkenstocks that day. Most major league players wouldnt have their local paper requesting a photo shoot to accompany a story about their work with Syrian refugees or LGBT pride night or an op-ed they wrote about veterans issues. Doolittle and Dolan are not most major league couples.
In a sport with a conservative culture defined by tradition and a near-dogmatic acceptance of the social status quo, they have been unafraid to be different, while determined not to be different for differents sake.

Bring back the Expos.
This term woke.
Washington Post using it as if it’s not slang.
And doesn’t it also mean “alt-right” as well as lefty SJW craziness (as used here).
I have only heard “woke” used to indicate alt-Right awareness of the corruption and malfeasance of the media and establishment politicians.
If this the Left trying to steal our word and make it theirs? They’ve done that before.
I am happy they are awake. It helps getting through life.
I’d love to know what these people are talking about...”against the social status-quo”. The current social status quo is to be exactly what these two espouse.
If baseball players still lean conservative, then THEY are out of the norm.
Totally libtarded feelgoodism. It’s a matter of time before baseball swirls down the toilet like football.
OMG. Can these over-the-top media people write / do anything without having to try to TOTALLY denigrate anybody who doesn't hold their point of view???
It’s crazy how the WP thinks of conservative views.
“Woke” means socially aware.
I hate that frickin’ word.
Makes me want to grab my flamethrower every time I hear it.
Woke like an Egyptian.
Hah! Woke joke. ;-)
For every veteran with an actual deployed history with “bad paper” there are 50 who never deployed who are just shitbirds who earned their less than honorable discharge.
Thanks, but I have real life and don't need to worship an athlete or any other 'celebrity'. If they were really just interested in doing "good deeds' we wouldn't be reading about them because they wouldn't need or want the 'special attention' from the media.
Who the heck are they?
And why should we care?
Washington Nationals closer, for those interested. Came up a few years ago with Oakland A’s.
aka, Culturally Marxist, back when the use of social controls for the benefit of authoritarians was utilized by the Soviets in Russia.
In this context ‘woke’ means fully indoctrinated Marxist leftist.
Not something to be proud of; something to despise.
