Former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) now has a 10-point lead over Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R) in their race to replace the retiring Sen. Bob Corker (R), according to a poll released Thursday.
The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) poll found that 45 percent of respondents would vote for Bredesen if the race were held today, compared to 35 percent for Blackburn, as first reported by The Tennessean. Another 17 percent said they remain unsure.
The survey indicates Bredesen, a former Nashville mayor, is gathering a wide coalition of support, with a plurality of self-identified independents, 45 percent, saying they would vote for him, compared to 33 percent for Blackburn. He also gets more backing from across the aisle 20 percent of Republicans say they would vote for him, compared to only 5 percent of Democrats who say the same about Blackburn.
"I think some of that good will or social capital that he built up as governor may be paying dividends for him now," said the director of the MTSU survey.

Have you conveyed that message to Mitch and Ryan?
I agree but the real question is why won't a democrat vote for a republican?
Thank you for talking many off the ledge. However, I am deeply disappointed that you appear to want to countermand the time-honored tradition of suggesting FReepers actually read an article before posting about it.
Scary part: I got a C in statistics. And I can still tell the poll is a crock.
I have a winning formula for the Republican Party for any election.
First: Have the senatorial campaign committee endorse the democrat.
Second: Give money to the democrat
Third: dig up dirt on the Republican candidate.
Fourth: Do everything you can to oppose the President and thwart his agenda at every turn.
Then all of the Republican in the district will love the Republican party and it’s leadership and will turn out in huge numbers
This needs to be blasted by Trump before the mid-terms. People need to be reminded what’s in store for them if they vote for Dems.
Let me guess, Bob Cucker supports Bredesen...
Bredeson was governor after the disastrous Don Sundquist who lied and tried to institute a state income tax, there was a revolt at the capital over that one. Bredeson reformed TNcare and didn’t pass an income tax so a lot of people will remember that.
And honestly the Republican party in TN is pretty much a bunch of GOPE country clubbers. Blackburn is the exception, not the rule. Corkhole, Limp Wrist Lamar Alexander and Haslam are prime examples. They are Bush/Howard Baker liberal big government Republicans and they don’t want Blackburn as the candidate. Blackburn should win, but Bredeson will give her a fight.
“being a democrate in TN is not like being one in NY.”
I wouldn’t have known this by looking at Al Gore.
There’s a lot of RAT dirt coming before November.
This “poll” I don’t believe. They refuse to show the internals. They say it’s 600 people on landlines only, so you will get a much higher response from Dems who are at home.
And I’ll worry when he’s been over 50 percent for a while.
I don’t put much stock in this, we’ll see where things are in NOVEMBER.
I do expect the GOP to lose many house seats based on the messaging they have been using throughout the special elections, but they should be picking up many senate seats in the fall.
There should be a deafening daily chorus of mean-spirited, fired-up GOP senators and congressmen trashing the Trump haters and Robert Mueller and his whole bullshit investigation. Only the silence is deafening. I am angry beyond words at the Republicans. If this were Obama, like Clinton, there would be a fully orchestrated, coordinated response run out of the White House. They would be trashing the opposition in the strongest and ugliest language possible. The Dems take no prisoners when it comes to political conflict. They play hard, they play to win, they are patient, their time horizon is decades long in securing their agenda.
Does the GOP even have an articulable agenda for which they have a long-term strategic plan ? If they do, it’s the best kept secret in Washington.
Looks like she is poised to become another Saccone. Hope she can turn the tide, but as member of the unpopular GOP leadership team, it will be difficult. The fact we have to fight to hold a Tennessee Senate seat is a bad, bad sign.
Nonsense!
Fill me in. What is the methodology?
Paul Rino and Mitch McRino are both useless as sin. It is up to the conservative voters to get out and vote for whatever Republican runs for US Senator from your state. It sucks to add more RINOs to the Senate, but it is vital the GOP maintains a Senate majority, no matter how little they deserve it. We need another shot at a conservative on SCOTUS and losing the Senate in 2018 does not help that in any way shape or form.
Here is hoping the Republican wins. It is vital.
