...does not include the Fake Washington Post, which is used as a lobbyist and should so REGISTER. If the P.O. increased its parcel rates, Amazons shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion. This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!
BBB
My first thought. Probably applies to walmart and other large volume shippers.
Why I don’t have prime.
Doesn’t work and is not worth the annual fee.
These days I use Amazon as a catalog and find it better and faster and cheaper elsewhere.
Amazon just opened a sortation facility in my hometown. I just about had a heart attack the first time a USPS truck drove into my yard on Sunday to deliver an Amazon package. I have not had a late delivery since the opened that facility.
“has decimated my Mail Order Vinyl business”
“So 90% of your mail order vinyl business is okay?”
Nope, I HAD a lot of Euro Customers. Example in 2014 I could ship a 7” Vinyl Single to the UK for $7.99, today $13.30 (that’s with a an eBay shipping discount) a 12” LP was $13.10 in 2014, now $21.38 or more. I’m off 30% in sales. A stronger dollar is part of it, but who wants to pay over $20 shipping on a $20-30 LP? Answer not nearly as many as before.
Why doesn’t the USPS reinvent itself as a social media outlet. People can sign up for online bill pay and a secure email address for a monthly or annual fee. For packages, use existing post offices for pickup.
Some rat member is getting campaign funds. Amazon has swindled many states out of billions in taxes. I stopped using them years ago and switched to Walmart which has comparable prices but does not cheat states out of the taxes due them.
Too bad on you. I’m glad and hope Amazon is not swindling your state out of its sales taxes. Anyone that would do business with Amazon is helping fund the rabid leftist pig called Bezos.
I usually do 2 Walmart orders per month. Household supplies, anything non refrigerated theyll ship. It always comes Fedex.
I ran an ecommerce business for years and shipping costs were always the deal breaker for us. Then you see how something, some invisible force is working against you that just doesn't make any sense.
(This was several years ago.) Needed to replace a cheap watchband and found it online; cost of item = less than a dollar. Free shipping. US Mail From China.
Agreed. And the states are not getting cheated out of their sales taxes that are used to subsidize the Bezos empire of the rabid left.
Historically, decimate meant to destroy 1 in 10. Today the term is commonly used as you used it, but there are those....
yowza. the comments at the link are totally hateful, as a good southerner would say. (that always cracked me up)
Years ago most Amazon prime orders were through UPS or Fedex.
Amazon Prime was 79.00. A few years ago they raised the Prime to 99.00 and started shipping all they could by USPS.
Since USPS delivery, many packages delivered to wrong addresses and not within the 2 day promise from Prime.
As someone who owns a small business and sells via Amazon, Trump is ignoring the forest for the trees on the shipping cost issue, and is wrong on the tax issue. (and I’m a fan of Trump, and voted for him happily).
On the postal-service rates issue, I’m sure Amazon has negotiated a good deal for themselves on rates. Any large-shipper would. If Trump or the Postal Service doesn’t like the deal, then change it when it’s up for renewal - once per year. Just be prepared to lose volume and have net-revenue be down, as Amazon has options (FedEx ground, UPS, & their own, budding delivery service).
What Trump SHOULD be going after are the rates foreign shippers receive when mailing commercial products into the US via USPS from abroad. I know of sellers that compete against other sellers from China, where the China sellers net price including shipping is below the US seller’s product cost. The postal rate is set ridiculously low, which disadvantages America’s small businesses.
And where Trump is wrong on taxes is that Amazon already does collect and remit sales taxes in every state that has one - when they are the seller of the merchandise. When a 3rd-party seller (like me) uses their platform to offer a product for sale, sales-taxes are only collected and sent to the buyer’s state when the seller has a presence (”nexus” in legal-speak) in that same state. But that doesn’t eliminate the tax assessment - every state that has a sales tax also has a parallel consumer use tax, where buyers are supposed to self-report whenever a taxable purchase is made, and where their state’s tax has not been collected by the seller. If states are out sales-tax receipts (and they are) on such interstate transactions, then it’s only because they are unwilling to take the steps necessary to enforce existing law against their own residents.
(p.s. - and this is the e-commerce landscape today, as supported by the 1992 decision of the US Supreme Court under Quill v North Dakota. Imposing the requirement on out-of-state entitites to register, collect and remit sales taxes is considered a violation of the Commerce Clause of the Constitution.)
You shouldnt be too hard on them. A politician is not gong to favor something he knows means certain defeat a the polls. The public (a voting majority!) wanted Socialism Lite. Thats still pretty much the case.
prime...two days from when Amazon decides to ship...
...not really two days.
OK...
Amazon has paid about $3 BILLION in taxes the last three years. So they do, indeed, pay taxes.
And, yes, the USPS should raise their rates enough so they can be self-sustaining. Because we are all subsidizing one another in this regard.
The carriers on Sunday are Carrier Associates be they city carriers, or rural carriers. I dont know about the rural side, but the City Carrier Associates make about $12 per hour, and 10% differential for working on Sunday. These are not the regular career carriers who are part of your neighborhood...we dont do Sundays.
**Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!**
I agree!
