Attorney General Jeff Sessions designated U.S. attorney John Huber as the prosecutor tasked with looking into allegations of abuse of power at the FBI.
In a Thursday letter to Congress, Sessions said this appointment was made in response to requests for a special counsel investigation of the claims. The attorney general said, however, that Huber will be the one determining "whether any matters merit the appointment of a special counsel....In his letter, Sessions said he will take the necessary actions to defend the integrity of the Justice Department and its work.
"We understand that the Department is not above criticism and it can never be that the Department conceals errors when they occur," Sessions wrote.
The attorney general said he expects the department's staff to operate with the "highest level of integrity, ethic, and professionalism."
"If anyone falls short of these standards, I will fulfill my responsibility to take necessary action to protect the integrity of our work," he said.

Irrelevant. Mitt Romney is from Utah, too.
“because of that (fear of bad press) nothing will happen until after the midterms.”
That would apply at any time, so why not benefit electorally?
Arrests and raids will likely initially be denounced as purely political by the Press, but when witnesses start to turn state’s evidence, damning evidence of shocking crimes becomes public, and well known people are convicted, it will turn people off to the perpetrators, and expose their past lies - destroying the credibility of their usual election season lies. Depressing the Democratic base.
So arrests and raids might need to be a few months earlier, for the info to get well out and absorbed, overcoming a few waves of media counterattacks with waves of new revelations. Maybe some big convictions or plea deals timed for September or October. Or maybe a new wave of allegations and raids, whose credibility has been boosted by the earlier wave(s).
I think that the bottom line is that there are some unusually big cards to play for this coming election, because there has been such exceptional corruption. Poker faces are to be expected in the lead up.
Better that Justice be thorough and effective, than that it be quick.
POTUS can ameliorate his egregious error by putting his foot up AG Sessions’ a$$ and kicking him to the curb.
About time!
“On Lou Dobbs (Stu Varney sitting in), Ed Rollins just said with Sessions lastest move, it is obvious this is a whitewash.”
I’m catching the replay now...Chris Farrell is not buying any of this crap either. He says it’s all a whitewash. “The IG is where the truth goes to die”
He says this is the kind of thing that makes followers of Judicial Watch go ballistic and throw stuff at their TV.
Greg Jarrett, Chris Farrell, Lou Dobbs, Ed Rollins—The verdict is in. Sessions is a deep-state compromised rat bastard who needs to be FIRED ASAP
“Ironically, the one thing that would get people out to vote for the hapless repubikans is if a lot of these corrupt-staters went to prison.”
Also, it could depress a lot of Democrats to stay home.
An irresistible combo.
Too good to pass up, especially with so many vulnerable Democrat Senators running, making a 60 vote super majority a possibility, if there was a wave.
All the politicos can see Mueller coming from a mile away, with politicized charges timed for the election. So they have to have a counter-strategy. A good offense is the best defense.
Nothing to lose and much to gain.
Sure Jeff, close the barn now that the cattle are all gone.
“We understand that the Department is not above criticism and it can never be that the Department conceals errors when they occur,” Sessions wrote.”
Weakest Tea ever poured. Sessions is Swamp
>>He reports to Rod Rosenstein, because Jeff “The SwampRat” Sessions essentially gave Ol’ Rod control over the whole DOJ.<<
Oh? Then how do you explain this from Sessions’ announcement today?
I receive regular updates from Mr. Huber and upon the conclusion of his review, will receive his recommendations as to whether any matters not currently under investigation should be opened, whether any matters currently under investigation require further resources, or whether any matters merit the appointment of a Special Counsel, Sessions said.
Sounds to me like Sessions is the one he’s reporting to, not Rosenstein. Sessions only recused himself from the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians, nothing more.
Exactly. DC marked anyone who dared look at Trump, never mind going to work for him. The Swamp tentacles are vicious. DC is Anti-American.
Hope everyone tuned into Chris Farrell, Judicial Watch, appearing on Lou Dobbs tonight. Varney filled in for Lou.
Farrell like most of us, has about had his fill of the ONE SIDED Justice Department dragging their feet against anything helpful to Trump.
Sickening the obfuscation, walking into outright obstruction of justice. Too infuriating for words.
>>Too infuriating for words.

Reading your words, I got this picture of:
Pissed off Patriots with Pitchforks, approaching the Potomac.
Oh, jeeezers. I read you!
Just imagining the GALATIAL PACE Sessions just laid out, for guaranteeing a long lasting, slow and painful political burial for Trump, in a death by a thousand cuts finale, makes me sick.of.him.
Sessions is a wordy little guy when he tells Congress to eff off. Big mistake if he gets by with this, on the Hill. He deems they work for HIM.
JD just declared they have gone rogue and that further interference by Oversight, Judicial and Intelligence Committees will be perfunctory courtesy and nothing more. HILARIOUSLY, IN THE NAME OF THE LAW.
Congress is made obsolete. LOL!
May be we deserve this. Thank you very much, Jeff.
PS: Youre positively poetic!
LOL, thanks : )
Who better to bring this investigation and these indictments than Obama appointees. Some honest, some may just know they have no choice and some will be cooperating to reduce their sentence. Let CNN and MSNBC explain all that shift. By midterm elections AG Sessions will be a genius is my bet.
It’s a good reason to stay away. LOL
