Voters prioritize protecting citizens from gun violence over protecting the rights of gun owners. And while majorities support a variety of gun control proposals, the latest Fox News poll also finds doubt Congress will act -- or that it would make any difference if it does.
By a 13-point margin, voters consider protecting against gun violence more important than protecting gun rights (53-40 percent).
In addition, theres substantial support for specific measures to reduce gun violence, including: requiring criminal background checks on all gun buyers (91 percent), requiring mental health checks on all gun buyers (84 percent), raising the age to buy all guns to 21 (72 percent), putting armed guards in schools (69 percent), and banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons (60 percent).

The proposal a majority rejects is allowing teachers and school officials to carry guns on school grounds (57 percent oppose). That was also the case in 2013 (52 percent opposed.)
The Fox News poll asked about these measures in January 2013, a month after the Newtown Connecticut school shooting that killed 26.
Compared to that time, support for putting armed guards at schools is up nine points, a ban on assault weapons is up six, and requiring mental health checks is up one. Support for universal background checks is unchanged -- and about 9-in-10 Democrats, Republicans, and independents favor them.
Nearly half of those living in a gun-owner household favor banning assault weapons: 47 percent favor, 50 percent oppose.

I wondered if there was a question about abolishing the "gun-free zones"... It appears not. But, respondents are against teachers and staff carrying on school grounds. And that's up since 2013.
Wow. Why should school grounds be any different than, say, shopping malls, grocery stores, churches or, any other place where people gather? I wonder if the typical American has ANY idea how many of her fellow citizens are carrying concealed while she walks around in blissful ignorance believing she's in the middle of a giant, gun-free zone. The good news: While the criminals don't know how many are capable of taking them out, they know just about anyone could be.
THE LEFT IS SO DUMB!
They should have added the question: “Can you define what an ‘Assault Weapon’ is?
Looks like the poll-bots are out in force.
This is the sad result of three generations of leftist drivel being taught in our schools.
I dont know, but watching Parkland cops sit back and let the murders proceed unimpeded tells me that the government cannot be trusted for my protection.
Faux polls suck.
Of those responding to the poll 80%;
don’t know what “universal background checks” means,
don’t have any idea how “mental health checks” would be conducted or tracked,
don’t have any idea what an “assault weapon” is.
No. What it reflects is the liberal media Fox news included. And it looks to be the same poll dredged up from six years ago.
We are a very divided nation. From what I’ve seen, about 25% of Americans own guns, so it does not seem surprising that a large percentage of the others would be for more control. The real question is the constitutionality. The Constitution is what saves us from ourselves and from the tyranny of the majority.
I think Goebbels also had a poll that reflected the same thing in the 30’s.
Polls always come back that way.
To put in context you have to add the poll that asked what their legislative priorities are and gun control always comes up at the bottom.
People don’t worry about getting shot in a mass shooting.
ROTFLMAO!
I don't give two #%*#s what their "pole" says and I don't care what laws they might be able to pass. They will still have to come and take mine. I suggest you pack a lunch.....[spit]
pole=poll before the autocorrect police show up.
Riggs polls are news today!
Just watch the weenies run for the exits if they begin any real action against guns and gun ownership.
They may attempt some end run around the issue behind closed doors with regulations, like the Kenyan did!
In my area, about 80% own guns, fortunately.
thats the big ?? that no one can answer correctly because there is no correct answer.
