President Trump faces losing support from his base in the wake of his decision Friday to sign a controversial and much-derided $1.3 trillion spending bill -- over not only its size but its failure to fund his campaign promise of a wall on the U.S. southern border.
Trump briefly threatened to veto the legislation, voted through the House and Senate on Thursday and early Friday in order to avoid a government shutdown.
Conservatives balked at the $1.3 trillion price tag, as well as the failure to promote Republican causes such as the defunding of Planned Parenthood and the funding of the wall on the southern border in particular. While the legislation served up $1.6 billion for border security, it mainly consisted of repairs and additions to already existing fencing.

“Congress is using budget shenanigans to funnel Pentagon money to President Trumps border wall.”
If true, haha
You cannot stop anything. The congress is loaded with critters who love spending tax payer’s money and the power which goes along with it.
Wake up and realize Trump is not a dictator. His veto is subject to override which was guaranteed. On the other hand by signing this bill, Trump has a better chance to get his wall and other agenda after 6 months.
The fiscal year ends on September 30th. New game begins on October 1st.
Any day now the letters and phone calls for money and support for the 2018 election will be coming from the congress creatures...
Good find!
“Building a Wall in the Dark
Congress is using budget shenanigans to funnel Pentagon money to President Trumps border wall.”
If true, makes all the whiners look awfully un-informed. Probably they are Cruz supporters.
Follow link in post #41. If wall construction begins before November election, will the base change their tune?
Make America Great After the next budget...
He should have vetoed - even tho there were votes to override the veto, it would have made him look better.
Shameful.
So build a wall not included in the prototypes.
You are WRONG on this. It is NOT a slush fund. Lies are circulating that he can do anything he wants with the money. Just not true.
Terrible budget, but that is due to GOP ‘leadership’ not Trump.
Yes, the problem is the uniparty.
And then, they all lie to us as candidates. I.e., Trump told us the DACA spawn would have to go back. Now he’s pushing amnesty for them
I.e., Trump told us he loved the 2nd Amendment and now he’s taking the 1st steps at gun regulation.
So, can you trust any of them? I guess not.
That’s good....it’s so true.....I wont sign another bill like this next time...LOL
The veto override would have gained him capital with his base instead of losing. Even worse after he tweeted he might veto, his base was cheering only to be slapped down again, hard not to see this was a bad move politically.
That’s how I see it, he lost a lot of enthusiasm from the voters, and that is death in politics. Guys like Romney and McCain could never generate the kind of enthusiasm that Candidate Trump could, and now, I’m afraid, that’s all gone.
Has anyone actually read the bill? A lot of his supporters were disheartened until some cool heads explained the difference between a budget and an omnibus bill. Some groups are actually going through the bill and will be sharing their findings. I checked Congress.gov page for appropriations bill and there were NAYS including Warren and Feinstein. So that must be a good sign. They probably knew what was in this bill.
Schumer won’t be gloating for long. I keep asking him “Where is my DACA?” hahaha
Then it is even more important not to lose the House or Senate, so he shouldn't do things that put them at risk.
