The suspected serial bomber who killed two people and terrorized Austin, Texas, for three harrowing weeks was killed in a dramatic confrontation with police overnight Wednesday, authorities said.
The suspect, identified by police early Wednesday as a 24-year old male, was killed near the motel he was traced to by authorities using surveillance footage from a Federal Express drop-off store and cell phone triangulation technology, according to The Austin American-Statesman.
The man, whose name was not released, died after fleeing the motel in a car, with police hot on his tail. He drove into a ditch, sparking the fatal confrontation.
"We wanted this to come to a peaceful resolution tonight," said Austin Police Chief Brian Manley. "However, we were not afforded that opportunity when he started to drive away."
Police said the man detonated two package bombs as police closed in, firing at him. It was not immediately clear whether he died from the bombs or shots fired by police. One officer was knocked back by the blasts, but none were seriously hurt.

There are photos of him dropping off the packages. Cops know the addresses packages were sent to. It's pretty settled science on that subject.
Yah,I can see that being the case when it's turned off.But how would that be true if the battery was removed?
There is some excellent detective work not being disclosed here. They had to run through thousands of hours of footage at all the FedEx stores nearby. How did they know the guy on the video was the suspect? Was he dropping off a package of the right estimated dimensions or weight?
_____________
are you joking? with time and date which they would have it takes moments to find footage, they know exactly when every package arrives into their hands
recently I had to take something back to Walmart without a receipt. customer service went into a backroom and confirmed that I purchased the object last week on Tuesday. they had a picture of me purchasing it and gave me store credit.
If you don’t want your phone tracked, simply put it in a small faraday cage or bag.
Austin is a huge college town, full of homeless. I was just there a couple of months ago. It is in NO WAY a representation of the rest of the state. We’d all like to go ahead and extend that “wall” around it once built to keep them away from us. So don’t any of you read these stories and think this guy is going to end up being on the right...it’s most likely he’s an extreme left type trying to punish anyone that supports the NRA or some such garbage.
Interesting they use the term Person of Interest. No such Critter exists in the legal world.
Yikes. That’s a bit creepy. Not surprising, just creepy.
But you are starting from the point that they know who they are looking for and can identify him on security camera footage or evidence he left when he shipped the bombs. But how did they know who they were looking for? It still seems to me there is a lot of good sleuthing here.
I never watched that series. Was that an airplane or an individual? TIA.
one cannot remove the battery in most cell phones and some have a secondary non removable battery too.
I suspect they already know me pretty well.
I dont know any 24 year olds that have skill sets to make bombs. Im guessing he is ex military.
**********
You mean like these two?
Touché.
Gov Abbott has already said the perp is NOT ex-military.
Seeing Mark Anthony Conditt name as atx bomber.
You are jumping to the conclusion that somebody walked in and dropped off the bomb. That doesnt seem like a good starting assumption to me. I mean, who would so stupid as to do that?
Pardon me for saying so, but it sounds like you are playing Monday morning quarterback there.
_______________
No all that I am saying is that we have a bomb dropper off person who might have purchased some of the makings. However there may be one more or many more involved.
Seeing Mark Anthony Conditt name as atx bomber.
Thanks, sock.
Any additional info/pics?
Or, have all of his social media accounts been scrubbed yet?
I wonder if two recent bomb episodes in Wisconsin are related? We had one white guy, same age, building bombs in his apartment, blew himself up and contaminated the entire building, which had to be burned down.
And then something similar in Madison; they found chemicals when other complained of the smell, but no explosion:
He will probably go with Mac as a pseudonym on social media. Finding this cotton-top pictured with the likes of Hogg, etc should be easy in CA, San Bernadino, before they can scrub them all.
Michelle Obama can be ID’d as a man. Not a 24 y/o one, but a man.
The media has been salivating to make it a hate crime from the first 2 bombs.
