Believe it or not, John Kasich matters

It is not immediately evident why anyone, or at least anyone outside Ohio, should care much about what John Kasich says or thinks.

The lame-duck governor has already run for president twice and lost. He's not a particularly charismatic or appealing figure. And to the extent most people in America know who he is, it's probably from his role as a marginal and somewhat irritating participant in the 2016 Republican primaries. To those in need of a refresher, he was the one who kept talking about how his dad was a mailman.

Still, the guy clearly thinks of himself as a national figure, and whatever else you can say about him, he has a knack for getting on television. Right now, he's in the process of reintroducing himself as that great rarity of politics, the Sensible Moderate Republican, a species long thought extinct outside of minor ecosystems like Vermont and Massachusetts.

But unlike your typical SMRs, Kasich will never be happy as a merely regional attraction. He wants to be president, and he's not really hiding it, what with his seemingly endless march through the greenrooms of Washington and New York. His top adviser, the liberal Republican strategist John Weaver, isn't playing coy either, and spends his days trashing Donald Trump on Twitter. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, Team Kasich was even caught updating his website to make it less stridently pro-gun. Needless to say, this is not the behavior of man who expects to retire from politics when his term ends next year.

Most of my neighbors across the political spectrum despise Kasick. One reason is that he’s gutted money coming back to smaller towns while he’s lined the pockets of deep pocket donors. We’re also quite ashamed that he hung Cleveland out to dry during the convention. Cleveland stepped up and did a great job, but Kasick did everything he could to make that impossible and to make Trump look bad.

“it’s pretty obvious he’s planning on running a primary challenge against Trump in 2020.”

Why not? It worked so well for him in 2016. Definition of insanity...

A guy who only won one state in the previous primaries thinks he will do better next time. He needs to talk to Mitt. LOL!

I live in Ohio and everyone I know detests Kasich. We consider him a traitor to all true red-blooded conservatives. Of course I have ZERO liberal friends. :)

Can’t imagine how big an ego he has to have, given his electoral failures outside Ohio, to think he even has a shot at POTUS, much less running vs. Donald Trump. And they say President Trump has a big ego? He’s a piker in that department compared to Kasich.

I think if most folks knew what sex acts that Pig Vomit and his best buddy Gary Condit engaged in while in Congress with interns and other various cretins, he’d have been run out of the country on a rail.

I have family members that loves Kasich.

They look to him as a voice of reason in a Trumpian world....

They claim to be conservative, but somehow cling to almost every progressive position except they are pro life.

They have a serious extreme case of TDS, which is not surprising.

They cut me off from communicating simply based on the fact I support Trump and would not capitulate to their world view...
