Gun retailers in the Capital Region have seen an uptick in firearm sales and interest in gun safety courses recently -- a common occurrence after mass shootings or alarm over gun control measures, they said.
The phone at Upstate Guns and Ammo in Schenectady has been "ringing off the hook" with callers asking about the store's training classes, which include pistol and handgun safety courses required for permits, said owner Craig Serafini.
They want to be prepared to protect themselves and others around them should anything happen, Serafini said. Class participants include a mix of men and women and range from young adults to people in their seventies.
"Safety and protection are universalities," he said.
Some customers are also worried about their access to guns in the future, especially after recent actions by retailers and President Donald Trump.
"Any time there's any word of not having something, people want it," Serafini said. "It's human nature."

I have been doing just that. AR style rifles I built from parts for less than $600 are going for 2x that. :)

Palmetto State Armory was sold out yesterday. Grab-a-Gun still had some of their more expensive ones. The cheaper ones sold out in a hurry.
If the cops can't protect you, only you can protect yourself - that's a big impetus to learn to shoot and protect oneself.
