Trump Wants Joe Manchin’s Gun Control, Rejects Steve Scalise’s National Reciprocity Push
Breitbart ^ | 2/28/18 | AWR HAWKINS

President Donald Trump embraced Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill but rejected Rep. Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) push for national reciprocity during a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers Wednesday afternoon. After listening to Sen Chris Murphy (D-CT), Trump looked at toward the end of the table and asked Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) to detail their gun control bill.

The Manchin/Toomey gun control bill is the same universal background check legislation supported by Barack Obama in the wake of the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School. It the very bill that was defeated in the Democrat-controlled Senate on April 17, 2013.

Toomey described it for Trump, saying the bill “strengthens the reporting of information into the background check system” and “requires background checks on all commercial sales.” This is code-talk for requiring background checks on private gun sales, which Toomey described as sales at gun shows and online (even though online sales already require a background check).

Manchin then spoke and suggested that West Virginians will support the Manchin/Toomey gun control bill if Trump will support it. He did not mention that the Manchin/Toomey bill would not have prevented the Florida attack — just as it would not have prevented the Sandy Hook attack that spawned it.

Trump spoke of the using the Manchin/Toomey bill “as a base” to which other gun bills can be added, and then continued taking comments from various senators and representatives in attendance.

When it was Rep. Scalise’s time to speak, he highlighted the crime-fighting value of concealed carriers and the need to pass national reciprocity legislation.

Yeah, well, Trump only had his base and destabilized the whole ship, pannicked instead of held steady

He is going to be destroyed. The IrS/ATF are activist branches and as such they will give Hillary her pleasure knife

Trump’s gun quote from today, explained simply:

The left: “Take the guns, especially the scary-looking ones!”

POTUS: “Take them without due process.”

The left: “You can’t take their guns without due process!”

“Call your House Reps and tell them what a mess this meeting was and no gun control .”

I wish I could, but being from Blue New Hampshire where we have an all Feminazi lib delegation, I’d just be wasting my time.

A call to the White House line would be my only chance of having my opinion heard.

“tread softy as your own base will Impeach you including me..”

Impeach? Absolutely! Count me in. Does he not get what’s important to his base? This had better be over with by the end of the week.

I don’t want strong background checks for my God given constitutional rights.

Tell me which constutional right needs a strong background check? Voting? Free speech? Due process?

“Where do you see background check mentioned in the Second Amendment?”

Where to you see the myriad of state and federal gun laws? The 2A is an “inalienable right,” and yet you can be arrested in California, New York, New Jersey and Illinois, for what is perfectly legal in probably 40 states or more. And yet, we have the completely worthless SCOTUS dealing with the 2A like some ill-equipped nurse in the ER picking at a festering wound. Pray that Ginsberg dies, and Kennedy and Breyer retire; and that Trump is successful in replacing them with Gorsuch clones.

This is going to be a problem sooner or later—more so when we get another leftist radical in the White House, which we will :(

What is the argument against strong background checks?

We already have background checks...

They are setting up a de facto national firearm registry. Think of that in the hands of another radical leftist president?

ALso, that background check would not have ensured the safety of the children in Parkland.

People who want to shoot up innocents are lawless and will procure a firearm or another weapon.

I’m being foolish?

Who’s the one who panicked the last four times when it turns out nothing happened?

And now I’m being ‘foolish’ because I’ve decided to wait and see instead of doing my Chicken Little impersonation like you are.

The bill is called Fix NICS. It is supported by the NRA, and Trump. All else is bullshit, by hysterical morons and never-trumpers.

This place has become infested with screaming little girls, spouting “Betrayal!” when they don’t know anything. Yet shout from the rooftops.

***

Good post.

That’s at least 4 times the Chicken Little caucus has looked like fools.

Strong background checks lead to
registration, registration leads
to confiscation.
The 2ND amendment “shall not be
infringed”.....

Here’s a different perspective on what Pres. Trump was doing concerning concealed carry legislation.

The House already approved such a measure, but Democrats in the Senate have blocked it and Trump seemed versed in that political reality.

"I think that maybe that bill will someday pass but it should pass as a separate” bill, Trump replied to Scalise.

"If you're going to put concealed carry between states into this bill, we're talking about a whole new ballgame. And you know I’m with you but let it be a separate bill,” he continued.

“You'll never get this passed if you add concealed carry to this, you’ll never get it passed.”

—Trump: Background checks will 'never' pass if concealed carry is attached

Manchin’s bill I not the Fix NICS Bill. The FixNICS bill is Cornyn’s bill. Manchin’s bill is the one we beat in 2013 by just 4 votes. It got 54 votes in the Senate.

Manchin and some woman House member that I don’t remember her name said the companion bill in the House has 200 co-sponsors. It only needs 218 to pass.

Hopefully, President Trump is playing the gun grabbers. But we cannot sit back and watch. We have to call, email and write Congress and the President fighting against the Manchin bill.
