She did but the eggs are history. An intruder harassed them all afternoon and the eggs were left uncovered far too long in that frigid air. :-(
I hope they can lay another clutch. She was so brave to stay under the snow and to help protect her nest, but their season might be over, though she's still on the eggs. She doesn't know they aren't good. :(
This is the female returning to the nest with the intruder right behind. Her mate zoomed in and chased him away, but that was just the beginning.
You’re rackin’ ‘em up! LOL!
WOOHOOOO!
I have the feeling their season is over too.
I also get the feeling the intruder is one of the original owners of that nest. Or there could be two intruders and we’ve only seen one at a time.
I got a good close-up scap of the female today and compared it to the original female - - not the same. And we already know it’s a different male.
And I fell into both. LOL
Between posting tunes and watching TV, I wasn’t paying attention tonight.
Well, that does explain the persistence. I guess these two are saying, first come, first served. LOL!
My sentiments exactly...there are so many stupid people.
It would explain it indeed. But they’re awfully late showing up this year if it’s them. They usually show up in early January and have eggs by the end of the month.
The weather may have been a factor since so many other northern birds we watch are also late this year.
The behavior of these two has been off in every way but I couldn’t get good enough scaps for comparison.
This year's almost Mom ...

((HUGS))Good morning, Ladies. How’s it going?
She gave it all she had to protect those eggs from the snow and cold.
We usually have hawks looking for a meal in the yard. Twice I've seen bald eagles in the yard...each time dining on a duck.
And once at daybreak an owl and a hawk fighting over the body of a duck that was probably the owl's kill. The owl got some, but the hawk got more.
I have had the Big Ben chimes and bongs for each hour, 9a to 9p, on the office computer for a long time, but normally hear them from a room or more away.
Scared the carp out of me when they chimed/bonged (eight times) right in front of me...that’s when I realized I’d been asleep. LOL!
Yes, nature can be pretty harsh sometimes.
Most of the time, watching these live cams is a delight but every now and then it gets tough. This one has been tough the past few days what with the intruder(s) plus the fact the female picked a real dodo for a mate. Totally useless. In all honesty, the eaglets wouldn’t have stood a chance so them freezing right after being laid was a good thing. That pair can try again next year when they’re more mature.
Must be tough seeing your ducks being dined on. :-(
No hawks or eagles seem to feast on the farm but we see them overhead all the time. And though we hear owls screeching as they hunt over the fields at night, I have yet to see one.
Thanks, my, for the video tunes for the troops. ((HUGS))
VFW report?
LOL! Sure glad I didn’t have a mouthful of food or drink when I read this. Scared the kittehs when I guffawed.
You’ve had a rough week and it’s no surprise you tapped out. YAY for getting to sleep in the next two mornings!
Thanks, unique, for the whole gang!
radu.....#50 and #100!!
Thanks, radu, for the video tunes for the troops. ((HUGS))
LOL! That’s a partying bunch!
You’re welcome. Always a pleasure to add a little something to entertain.
