If Nikolas Cruz had been arrested for his prior criminal behavior he would not have passed a background check for a firearm purchase. The issue was/is not the background check; the issue was/is the lack of a prior arrest. Hence, the Broward County school and law enforcement policy is ultimately what failed.
I dont say this lightly, but the lawyers have the easiest case for wrongful death lawsuits in the history of this type of litigation. The county policy constructed by public officials (School Board and Superintendent), and the county law enforcement policy that was specifically and intentionally designed to ignore unlawful behavior (Broward Sheriff), is the very definition of intentional gross negligence.
Gross negligence requires a pre-disposition to create a system that is inherently dangerous. That is exactly what happened in Broward County, Florida.
Despite specific warnings that unstable and/or violent students would likely slip through the system as a result of intentional willful blindness; and despite specific warnings by police officers that these policies were dangerous; community leaders, district school administration and local police officials executed those policies anyway.
The resulting loss of life was entirely predictable; and it was predicted.
It will be very important for the families to screen out the lawyers carefully. Many of the top lawyers are aligned with high-ranking political Democrats. Political lawyers like John Morgan (Morgan and Morgan) are part of the ideological alignment (with Democrat politicians) that created the system of policies that led to the deaths of the students. Morgan would be a terrible lawyer for the families because he, along with many others would hold conflicts.
In my humble opinion, the victim families need to get good lawyers who are not part of the political system within the state of Florida; and must not -EVER- hire Democrats. There will be massive political pressure around the entire issue with all those who constructed the schemes being protected by the same system that needs to protect former President Obama.
ps. My apologies but my experience in trying to stop this years ago was met with hostility and the most intense political hate imaginable. As a result, I dislike the characters and officials around this story immensely. The Sheriff, the School Superintendent and every member of the Broward County School Board are complicit. They deserve no quarter.
My prayers are for the victims, their families and those who are hostage to these policies.
In addition to any monetary damages, these officials need to be brought up on manslaughter charges. The challenge is how to make the legal system stop acting as the protector of the Left.
No, but you do!
Uh, no. History is your friend.
Seek enlightenment and knowledge, snowflake.
Maybe I would take it more seriously if they started getting serious with all the felon shooters who kill with guns or just go out with the resultant "shots fired" incidents which are hugely on the rise.
Everyone should ask themselves if it was their child who went off to school and went through something like this. If they got the horrible news theirs was killed, or badly wounded, who would they blame, and what would they do? Sue?
I guess you can't sue the gun manufacturer because some Sandy Hook parents tried that. And the refusal by that court I would probably support. Can you sue the FBI? They surely dropped the ball bigtime. How about the school not securing the premises adequately? Anybody else or would you not sue anybody (which may be a good option because that has heavy emotional consequences, too).
I'm not for arming teachers with possibly a very few exceptions. I don't see how they can do their job, carry a weapon whether openly or concealed, and not be easily distracted and be at risk for kids to attack them and take it from them. Unless they don't know.
Banning bump stocks would be a good start, but most mass killings haven't been accomplished with them. Only one I know of is Las Vegas. And I concede it probably made it more deadly.
Why can't we have a reasonable conversation about ALL the possibilities, reasonable or not? I will say the liberals are playing this one like they always seem to do which is infuriating, but sooner or later, it could be a winning issue for them. And I do not want them to win.
Here’s the reality that Brit Hume and others either don’t get, or deliberately wont face:
The 2nd Amendment is for THE DAY they ban our firearms and try to take them away. THAT day. If that’s not a tyrannical move, then I don’t know what constitutes “tyranny”. Anyone who signs on to it, who signs it and tries to enforce it is a traitorous POS and, well, add whatever you want to the end of that statement.
Period.
Everything else is moot at that point, and you have a choice to make. Choices have consequences, but it is still a choice.
And that choice is, am I an American, a Free Man, with Rights enumerated in the Constitution for over 200 years, or do I just knuckle under and wait for the cattle cars?
Because that is the end result of EVERY gun ban, ultimately. It’s how the Left historically has dealt with “difficult people”.
I’m an American. That’s my choice. I have relatives that DIED for these rights. I don’t bow, kneel, kowtow, or blindly comply, or OBEY anyone or anything.
So, take that for what it’s worth.
I’m betting there are millions more just like me. If not, that doesn’t matter either, because I’m STILL an American, with the duties, obligations, and responsibilities imposed on me by virtue of that declaration.
#MyRightsAreNonNegotiable.
who cares what you rant about .
Bloomy is a POS; you'll not get an argument about that from me. OTOH, you agreed with a vile post, which was truly not just ignorant, but beyond the pale.
It is YOU, diddums, who need "enlightenment" as well as "KNOWLEDGE", and a brain transplant.
More people than would ever give a damn about what YOU have to say. ;^)
Quite frankly, the same applies to Trayvon Martin. If he had been charged when authorities found stolen goods in his possession, he might have had a chance at rehabilitation—especially since records for such crimes committed while underage can go away upon reaching adulthood.
But he learned he could commit theft and break-ins with impunity. This most likely led to his cavalier attitude when confronted by the off-duty patrol guy (Zimmerman).
Enforcement of the law is often in the best interest of both the victims and the criminals. Goes double when enforcement puts an end to such behavior.

Brit Hume is an over the hill anti Trumper.
And jailed. And sued.
Brit is a closet lib; he’ll be fine with more gun control.
A start would be not to sell guns to the unstable left who have shown how nuts they are after Trump was elected.
You are the ignorant, irrational, pathetic fool...attempting to smear an entire populace of a certain religious adherence, for various governmental institutions' cockups culminated in the deaths of some kids and a few adults in Florida.
And you neither know anything at all about Wall Street ( used in a generic way and a MISUSED term, by you )nor much of anything else.
You need to stop digging!
Good advice; Those so called protests which are nothing more than democrat aka pervert rallys designed to deflect responsibility of failure of a system they created.
There should be a counter protest organized by members of the Florida House who attempted to correct the situation in Parkland and other areas employing this stupid “gun free zone” BS.
If and when they do they should expose the failings of the policies applied by the school board.
Examine records reporting how student vs student, and student vs teacher altercations, vandalism, and thefts, which are bound to occur were being dealt with.
Because of their Ding Bat liberal policies it brings up another question. Just how safe and secure are those kids ? Theres a lot of krap that happens; Assaults, fights, thefts, books and items stolen, teachers accosted, kids intimidated..Drug use..
Because in an educational unit this size its pretty clear their security system failed . In a secure system Cruz would have never gotten inside.
That he is!
