Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn is expected to issue draft legislation on overhauling the Renewable Fuel Standard.... Proponents of getting rid of the ethanol mandate pitched the idea of the bill being released during next weeks holiday recess, but Cornyns office is being tight lipped.
Sources tell John that the Senate majority whip has been working steadily on a bill that would phase out the ethanol mandate in four years.
The Renewable Fuel Standard requires refiners to blend billions of gallons of corn ethanol into the nations gasoline supply each year, in addition to other biofuels derived from plant waste and other non-food crops.
But a number of groups and lawmakers have been calling for major changes in the the program, or straight out repeal, saying the program has been a failure.

About damn time...

And FWIW, my small engines hate it!
Make it go away! Ethanol is bad.
So we lose twice with this farmer thanks to the government.
Get rid of ALL the subsidies on ethanol and see what happens.
One of my local farmers says that these farmers also play the market at the same time.
With the US awash in hydrocarbons and grounded in coal deposits it is hard to justify turning food into fuel. It would seem that the right could ally with the greenies on this given the environmental havoc created from the net increase in energy consumption and pollution required to produce ethanol. But no the greenies agenda is communism and ethanol is a 70’s era communist scheme come true.
Using corn to fuel cars is completely stupid.
Get rid of it before the next Iowa caucus to select a presidential candidate.
1, Hydroscopic (absorbs water)...can't be transported in pipelines
2. Burns with an almost invisible flame
3. Firefighters need special foams to combat ethanol fires.
These bastards in D.C. enjoy their $100.00 per pound steaks while Joe Sixpack forks out hundreds $$$ for engine repairs.
Crony capitalism! It’s how things are done in the US..
More like the Uniparty at work...
Getting rid of the 17th Amendment would end crap like this over night
Excellent recommendation!
“Repeal the mandatory addition of ethanol into gasoline and let it be a free-market choice. If a gas station wants to sell ethanol-laced gasoline-fine. If not-also fine. Sustain ethanol-lace gasoline at FREE market levels.”
I have said the same thing about solar farms, wind power and other expensive so called energy replacements.
If they are economical and can make it in a free-market, they will be good choices.
The farmers in Iowa aren’t stupid. They know that the ethanol mandate is a farce imposed upon the gullible public. Ted Cruz campaigned in Iowa on eliminating the ethanol scam, and he won Iowa. Perhaps because he was the only candidate that had the guts to tell the truth.
I have to drive 25 miles to the nearest gas station that sells ethanol-free gas. So I fill up my car and I take along two gas cans for my motorcycle. It is carbureted not fuel injected so it runs really crappy on ethanol contaminated gasoline as well as the problem of the ethanol wrecking the carburetor.
Can you get ethanol free premium where you live? That’s what I use.
It’s around somewhere, I’m sure.
YES! Finally, end our governments farmer welfare/enrichment program!
What is ethanols true energy balance (energy units produced vs energy units required to produce it) vs gasoline? http://www.energytrendsinsider.com/2006/04/08/energy-balance-for-ethanol-better-than-for-gasoline/
I now pay around 15% more to use non-oxi gas in my non-auto vehicles and power tools. Pulled apart and cleaned or replaced several carbs before doing so. BS!
Yes, but think about the makers of TRUEFUEL, Sta-bile, Star-tron, and all the other makers of non ethanol fuel and fuel additives that have come out in the last 5 years? What about them? Their entire business model revolves around the fact that the government forced us to have no choice in the fuel available to us.
I was in my local John Deere, Ariens, Stihl machinery dealer about a month ago. EVERY company(Stilhl, Briggs & Stratton, Huskavarna) have their own brand of non ethanol fuel bottled in 1 quart to 1 gallon containers. Home Depot has at least three different brands of non ethanol fuel.
There is a multi million dollar industry that has developed to combat the ethanol problem with small engines.
