Florida shooting: Teachers 'were warned' about Nikolas Cruz
BBC ^ | 2-15-18

Posted on 02/15/2018 5:34:38 AM PST by SJackson

Teachers were warned in advance about the teenager who allegedly carried out a mass shooting at his former school in Florida, US media are reporting.

Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder following the deadliest shooting at a US school since 2012.

A teacher said Mr Cruz was not allowed on campus with a backpack.

Seventeen people were killed in the attack and many more injured. Several people are in a critical condition. Mr Cruz, 19, apparently left the scene of the shooting by blending in with fleeing students, but was arrested several miles away and is now in police custody. What was the warning?

Maths teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald that school authorities had emailed teachers about Mr Cruz's behaviour.

"We were told last year that he wasn't allowed on campus with a backpack on him," Mr Gard told the Miami Herald. "There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus."

They do mass shooter drills, at least when I was in school after Columbine. They were referred to as IOC (Intruder on Campus) drills.

Not sure if it is a federal mandate, but they are already happening in some form.

“A teacher said Mr Cruz was not allowed on campus with a backpack.”

Yeah, I don’t get it either. He should have never been allowed on the school grounds, period.

How about this scenario.

Imaging if you will a politicized FBI. Crazy huh?

Now consider the FBI doesn’t follow up on school shooting threats because school shootings accomplish two political objectives.

A) They get whatever ongoing leftist scandal out of the news cycle and B) reignites gun confiscation debate.

A quick look at the facts.

Vlogger alerts the FBI.
FBI interviews vlogger immediately, wants to know if he knows the threat.
The FBI dissappear.
Kid shoots up school.
FBI interviews vlogger again, wants to know the if he new the threat or could be involved.

What happened between the first interview and the shooting?

End result would suggest nothing.

Why? A politicized FBI?

No offense to any school teachers here on FreeRepublic, but there's no getting around the fact that people who pursue careers in education are often the dumbest professionals you'll ever meet. It should come as no surprise that our schools are ill-equipped to deal with anything that involves even an ounce of initiative and responsibility.

Public schools, by and large, are basically dull sheep raising another generation of dull sheep.

He lost both of his adoptive parents recently with his adoptive Mother passing away in November. The family he had been passed on to didn’t seem to notice anything so I doubt they were caring people.Seems most who knew him thought he was a danger.

The Federal government should at least get out of the way.

You can't have local governments dealing with mutants who cannot be assessed accurately as threats because of Federal laws governing the privacy of medical records.

Governor Scott said his dad died 13 years ago (heart attack) leaving mom to raise him from age 6.

His parents were in their fifties when he was adopted. That’s not the usual recipe for success.

Grown by many measures, yet still “expected” to go to school. A conspicuous and awkward misfit. And maybe not bright enough to fake it.

This is what Big Brothers/Sisters was about. But somehow between lefty proposals to change all society via government molds, and righty finger wagging, there might be found care once more for the world’s black sheep?

MSM is calling it “a senseless act.” I disagree.

From what we already know about this guy, his Facebook info and school info and schoolmate claims, this was almost to be expected, therefore making sense.

The senselessness was the guy not being committed to a psych ward for observation, testing and treatment. At the very least, removal from society.

This is on law enforcement with some on the school district

**************

I would say its the other way around. The school should have been far more aggressive in reporting this threat to police. Everyone in the school knew well his potential for violence and his disturbed mind. This guy clearly had an unhealthy obsession with guns that could lead to a deadly incident.

The school had more than enough information about him to document the reality of the threat he posed. For whatever reasons, the school administrators seemed reluctant to aggressively notify police and seek their urgent intervention and assistance.

Schools of secondary educators can’t help in a way that the preacher and evangelist could.

Yes. When you think about how often this happened in the past, when there were MORE guns and they were simply a part of the culture, and there was less FedGov involvement, it’s easy to see a possible cause.

Of course there are other causes as well. But it’s not about guns. It’s about the culture.

“I read that his adoptive mother passed away, not sure when.”

I read somewhere that his adoptive mother passed away ~3 1/2 months ago - leaving him and another sibling in the “care” of another family member.

Senseless from the point of view of common mores.

Someone who mopes around shouldn’t be slammed in jail. He should be met with by people who can credibly offer new vistas.

Their only pressing need, and the real reason most would abhor this solution is that they are necessary for day care,...

They also justify the need for teachers unions and the DOE. And how else are the liberals going to brainwash generation after generation? All these needless deaths fall solely on the hands of liberal policies.

Maybe if they made the 'Gun Free Zone' signs bigger with bold text? /s

This crap pisses me off to no end....

Interesting comment.

It seems that there should be well defined protocols that administrators must follow when they become aware of threats to the safety of children in their schools. Administrators are, for the most part, liberal minded mini-bureaucrats who need to be told how to do their jobs. They need to be held accountable for their failure to take every legal measure to protect students.
