On Wednesday, Feb.14, 2018, it took less than 15 minutes for a jury to convict Donald Smith (right) of abducting, raping and murdering 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle in Jacksonville, Fla.
A Florida jury Wednesday convicted a 61-year-old man of abducting, raping and murdering an 8-year-old girl in less than 15 minutes, delivering unanimous guilty verdicts.
The Jacksonville courtroom had just gone into recess after the judge read instructions to the jurors when everyone quickly returned with a decision.
Donald Smith, wearing a shirt and plaid tie, watched without expression as the jury foreman quickly read through the verdicts.
The white-haired Smith was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual battery on a child less than 12 years of age in the crimes against Cherish Perrywinkle. The jury was ordered to return to court Tuesday to begin the penalty phase of the trial. Smith faces a possible death sentence.

OMG...i misread your statement.....heading back to get my 2nd cup of coffee and WAKE UP!.
oh yeah that “I’m OK, You’re OK” complete pile of horse manure Transactional Analysis had my dopey parents hooked, we kids went through a whole lot of hell because of garbage like that. Engendered in me a total disrespect for “psychology”.
Thanks for the link.....but it is a confusing report
There is also the fact that the medical examiner broke down in tears on the stand, and the judge overruled the defense's objection to her display of emotion.
Sheesh!
When we took away deterrents we allowed this kind of behavior and others to flourish. We need serious and quick justice
2013? Why didn’t police batter and strangle him when they found him? They shoot dogs all the time. I can’t believe he’s been permitted to live this long.
Agreed. When the facts are rock solid and crystal clear, I can vote in that first 60 seconds.
It is confusing. AL.com is a bunch of incompetent unprofessional liberal bloggers so I have learned to have low expectations of them.
Back in 1933, Floriduh was far more prompt.
Look up the case of Giuseppe Zangara. He took a shot at the president but hit the mayor of Chicago by mistake. Hizzonor not dying immediately, the charge was attempted murder, the verdict guilty. But Cermak died. So, another trial, another verdict, another sentence: Old Sparky!
The crime was on 15 February 1933. The sentence was carried out on 20 March. Zangara was disappointed there were no photographers. SJW to the end, his last words were ""Viva l'Italia! Goodbye to all poor peoples everywhere!... Pusha da button! Go ahead, pusha da button!"
33 days from trigger pull to button push!
The average stay on death row in Florida is 14.91 years, so round up to 15.

So this monster will be 76 when he gets put to death. If he doesn’t die of natural causes first.
A death penalty allows years of appeals. A life sentence in the general population would be swifter. Even felons detest the scum he is.
Yes, the defense lawyers already had their staff working on the appeal as soon as the ME shed the first tear.
Add in only 15 minutes of jury deliberation and this monster will expire of old age before he is executed.
Meanwhile, the Washington senate votes to repeal death penalty.
“The jury wins the gold medal for time spent in deliberation.”
So far so good now execute him Saturday then bring on the next case.
Drawing & quartering, very slowly, would be a fitting punishment. Try to get it to last a full day before he croaks off.
“Meanwhile, the Washington senate votes to repeal death penalty.”
Washington State, Kalfornicated years ago, is a lib stronghold where conventional values are reversed. They do not value the life of the young and they protect felons. So I expect them to repeal the death penalty.
Oh, they convicted a white guy...never mind.
Bad news for Cruz
Feed him to the Alligators!
Its a horrific case.....
Actually surprised the prosecution was allowed to present the pictures. As bad as they sounded many judges would have prohibited as being too inflammatory
