There is a great army of patriots that need to be patrolling our schools: They are retired police officers.
Just in Westchester County NY alone there are hundreds of retired officers that would would patrol our districts... minimum wage!
The police officer would be carrying a firearm and not known to any employee of the school district to deter the potential threat.
It is a simple deterrent that will make sure the potential threat will be met with equal deterrence. Makes me 😊!
Ummm.... to be allowed onto the school grounds they would *have* to be known to some of the school district employees...
Really? No shite champion of the obvious. This is rational conversation here. So, to your point, the school board, principles and Vps know the man or woman. Really?
"...not known to any employee of the school district..."
As a crossing guard or Janitor? Please grow up.
The FASTER Program is being adopted by many school districts in multiple states:

I really like it.
It's called retirement for a reason. Plus, gun regulations may change with retired officers. I was a peace officer, and could purchase a weapon on my badge while employed if I had wanted to, but once retired, I would have had to get a permit to own and carry a weapon.
The reality is criminals and the mentally ill are in possession of firearms. Gun control will not stop them. We’ve had many incidents of mass violence in ‘gun free’ zones yet children sit in schools defensless.
Just another mass murder made possible by the Democrat Party who prevent schools from having armed staff to protect the kids.
Oh wait, no mass shootings, etc at the school Obama sent his kids to....hhmmm...wonder why?
Oh yeah, lots of armed adults there.
But for the children of us little people....the Dem Party says “no protection allowed”.
Makes the Dem Party accessories to the mass murders.
Hey! I know!
Ban all guns.
That will work to solve everything.
After all, drugs are banned and so there are no illegal drugs or drug trafficking in the USA.
Right, right?
(above was an intelligent test....agree and congrads...you must be a moron or a Dem politician.
"...please grow up..."
Sorry. Schools are “gun-free zones”
No can do.
I’m not sure why they need to be unknown to anyone.
I’d rather they be visible and plentiful and aided by multiple systems designed to thwart shooters.
I also suspect hat once schools are fortified, school buses will also need similar, because they are also currently vulnerable to anyone who wants to attack them.
I also like the idea of teachers and admin unknown to the public being trained in firearms and being armed. So that no one knows where the armed protection is. I also think that a couple uniformed armed guards help. I went to a private high school that did have armed guards at the gates and I do think it deterred kidnappings. Makes it harder to get in.
Every school in America should offer a $500 annual bonus to 5-10 full time employees willing to train and conceal carry while on duty.
One of the prime reasons for uniformed versus plain clothes officers posted to guard assets is the concept of deterrence. Black hats will instinctively move on from white hat protected assets to greener pastures. Therefore, I would say that uniformed officers with specialized training and communications capabilities are preferable. Yes, more costly but can we spend too much guarding our most cherished possessions?
No problem, creepy dude on campus no one knows, carrying a gun...
That I’m down with.
Creepy old guy hanging around campus, no one knows? No bueno.
Happy officer in uniform, doing community policing now, that guy I’m down with.
If the school/district can afford it, I say have both faculty/staff (select members trained in armed response) and uniformed trianed security as a visible deterrant.
The problem is that many school districts, and especially exurb/rural districts, don’t have the money to hire uniformed security. The best alternative is select armed & trained faculty/staff volunteers.

And maybe $300 to carry radios that the office monitors.....Comms would pinpoint trouble
