Florida school shooting suspect was ex-student who may have been flagged as threat

The former student suspected of opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland may have been identified as a potential threat to fellow students in the past, according to one teacher.

The 19-year-old ex-student, who has been detained by Broward police, has not been publicly identified as a suspect. But a law-enforcement source identified him as Nicolas Cruz.

“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” said math teacher Jim Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”

The Broward County School District Superintendent, however, told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that he did not know of any concerns raised about the student.

As usual, all the red flags were there, but its Trumps fault.

Apparently flagging as a threat is not a viable crime prevention tool....right up there with gun-free zones.

“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” said math teacher Jim Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.

The short version:

1. The shooter was bat____ crazy.

2. Everybody knew he was bat____ crazy.

3. Despite everyone knowing he was bat____ crazy and scaring everyone he came in contact with, nothing could be done, because ... he was a unique and precious little snowflake.

Can’t wait to see the news tonight. I’m sure the liberals will be loaded for bear to resume the gun control debate.

Sorry to be sarcastic about a tragedy, but I’m thinking of the liberal response to such events. I would be pleasantly surprised if they would allow us to mourn and pray for the victims, rather than launch right into the gun control debate tonight. I would love to be proven wrong.

I will wait a few days, but raw data says this guy was a known threat and had no business there.

Right, my guess is that if a charter school advertised armed faculty, parents would seek out that school because then the student would have someone in class with the means to protect the classroom.

Right up there with arming faculty is the idea that people with this level of “problems” need to be institutionalized so that they can be kept away from weapons.

The answer is so easy. If I had a dead child killed there, I would sue that school district for negligence and I would win millions because there was no armed response!!!!! In my state, you will meet immediate doom if you come in our schools with a gun . We use armed coaches and military veterans who are trained for special responses and volunteer. Response weapons are locked up but ready to go and there are monthly drills with different scenarios. Many of our shooter response team are women military vets. What you do here is obtain a gun and kill the son of a bitch.

They used to be. I remember the state institutions well. Had one in the town I grew up. Then the left weaponized psychiatry and touted “mainstreaming” the section 18’s. Now parents are deathly afraid to even let children play in the front yard. Let alone amble over to the local pick em up baseball game.
