JOHANNESBURG Top leaders of South Africas governing party ordered President Jacob Zuma to step down on Tuesday, saying that his continued presence was eroding the renewed hope felt since the election of new party leaders in December.
Ace Magashule, secretary general of the African National Congress, said that the party had not given Mr. Zuma a deadline to respond, but added that he was certain that the president would deliver a reply the next day.
Lets leave it to President Jacob Zuma, Mr. Magashule said at a news conference at party headquarters in Johannesburg.
In a meeting with party leaders Monday night, Mr. Zuma was defiant, insisting that he had done nothing wrong and refusing to resign, according to the local news media.
The extraordinary confrontation between Mr. Zuma and the A.N.C., the party that until recently had backed him throughout a scandal-plagued presidency, heightened a power struggle over the past week that has paralyzed South Africa, which has the continents most powerful economy.
President Zumas Speech Postponed as South African Power Struggle Intensifies FEB. 6, 2018 The drawn-out negotiations over Mr. Zumas future have cast a pall over the optimism that followed Cyril Ramaphosas election in December to succeed him as leader of the A.N.C. Although Mr. Ramaphosa, deputy president since 2014, has a mixed record in both politics and business, he has spoken forcefully against corruption and is allied with A.N.C. officials with reputations as reformers.
Mr. Magashule said that Mr. Zuma had asked to serve for an additional three to six months before stepping down. But Mr. Magashule said that party leaders rejected the request, saying, the period is too long.

SA devolves daily back to its ‘roots’...................
in before the Carl Stay in the House guys... oh... sorry, that’s AMC... not nevermind.
You have to be a real screw up for the ANC to tell you to quit.
Another African shithole is circling the drain.
Zuma is an evil man. Having raped a woman in his family and for many of his current wives outright theft of public funds as well as for his deep corruption within the ANC and by way of his thugs headed by Julius Melema he deserves jail for a very long time.
Buh bye, Nkosi
Yep, as it regresses to its root oppressor they have known since the beginning of time, the chiefdoms.
This regression will produce a couple of the greatest genocides as it crumbles. First, the residual whites. Then all the infighting of the black immigrants who mooched off of whitey’s infrastructure,
Yes, that is the history of Africa, no one able to build the necessary meaningful infrastructure to lift the people out of the dirt.
The tyrannical chiefs cannot do it. The last thing they want is anyone to get ahead of them, thusly, progress is 100% stifled.
BUT! the fools have to blame whitey...
I doubt that African-Americans Charlize Theron and Elon Musk are moving back anytime soon.
Just think how much different South Africa would have been if, instead of Nelson Mandela, Mangosuthu Buthelezi had become president.
Isn’t Zuma a nasty-tasting, alcoholic, pseudo-malt-beverage?
Or is that Zima?
