Trayvon sparked a movement that stands up to fascism and white supremacy. We need to hold him in our memories.
February 5th marks five years and 339 days since Trayvon Martins memorial service; it would also be his 23rd birthday.
The day is necessarily somber. Nearly six years ago, Trayvons death at the hands of white supremacist vigilante violence indicated the beginning of an escalating attack on Black lives and demanded that this nation confront its overtly racist past and present. The urgency of #Justice4TrayvonMartin turned into a global urgency to fight for Black lives one which persists today.
What we acknowledged as a nation during the one-and-a-half year trial of George Zimmerman is that the white majoritys public imagination of Black people was based on their fear of us, not the reality of who we are. Trayvon Martin was a teenage boy literally walking in his own neighborhood doing what most teenagers do: Wearing a hoodie, buying snacks and talking on his cell phone. His family and Trayvon would not know that his life would end that night because a white vigilante would be empowered by his own racist beliefs and murder a 17-year-old boy in cold blood.
We organize marches, disrupt major highways, set up tent cities at police headquarters and charge the stages of elected officials in honor of Trayvon and others we have lost unnecessarily and too soon. We build electoral justice tables and develop movements that can develop new political leaders. We are working to do everything in our power to save America and defend our humanity.
This is what Trayvon represents, and so much more. We pray and we organize, so that his life and the lives of other Black people have not been taken in vain.

Chip on his shoulder too.
A party with chip on its shoulder earns an opposition party president right glad to knock said chip off.
Donald oughtta tweet at this one.

And pounding whitey’s head into the concrete.
I hold NBC accountable for publishing this garbage.
Yes, but no one else can, and this is now, not in trayvon’s year. It is sad, but it also points out how disgustingly corrupt the old media really is. Do you know who Michael Brown is? See my tag line.
How many points for noticing the author’s first name “Patrisse” and not even bothering to click the posted article?
She can’t even get her facts straight..
“Trayvon Martin was a teenage boy literally walking in his own neighborhood doing what most teenagers do”
Martin did not live in the neighborhood where he was shot, Martin’s father’s girlfriend lived there and he was visiting her.
“His family and Trayvon would not know that his life would end that night because a white vigilante would be empowered by his own racist beliefs and murder a 17-year-old boy in cold blood.”
Zimmerman was not “white”, he’s Hispanic. He didn’t murder Martin in cold blood, he shot an individual who had attacked him and injured his face. Zimmerman was having his head repeatedly slammed onto the concrete sidewalk.
“We organize marches, disrupt major highways, set up tent cities at police headquarters and charge the stages of elected officials in honor of Trayvon and others we have lost unnecessarily and too soon. We build electoral justice tables and develop movements that can develop new political leaders. We are working to do everything in our power to save America and defend our humanity.”
They disrupt the lives of regular working Americans and cheer on cop killers.
“This is what Trayvon represents, and so much more. We pray and we organize, so that his life and the lives of other Black people have not been taken in vain.”
Martin’s death was simply his future occurring earlier than normal. He was well on his to a life of crime, as the “no limit nigga” he claimed to be. If it weren’t Zimmerman, it would have been the cops or another hood rat that took his life. Had that happened, his black life wouldn’t have mattered.
The article should have been registered as "Semi-Satire," eh?
That’s a problem in itself. People do have choices to transcend their circumstances. Isn’t that a basic conservative tenet? Or did it get ceded to liberals?
Yeap! Martin was a thug out looking for trouble. He was so full of himself, he was not about letting some citizen fool slow him down.
The trouble with the BLM types is not understanding that we all want to lift the level of our culture, not encourage certain ones to drag us all down to their thugish level.
She could not have gotten a normal job, but her hatred for Whitey got her a job in which she can put her hatred into practice.
White supremacist vigilante justice? So a guy named Zimmerman who is half white an half hispanic and is getting his head pounded on sidewalk by a thug is a white supremacist because he has a gun and shoots to protect his life an limb? I tell ya what Ms Journalist anybody pounding my head on sidewalk will get hit with whatever I can get a hold of an that is called “survival instinct” its a human nature.

If his school had called. The police hed be alive today
White Supremacist=Anyone winning an argument with a minority, Anyone not willing to sit idly by and watch historical monuments be torn down, Anyone who doesn’t “recognize their privilege”, Anyone who points out the problems in the African American community are the fault of that community and that community alone.
All dumb ass whiteys.
Trayvon was scum whose extermination saved people from the problems he would have created.
We are all better for his loss.
Let’s all burglarize a house, get high on purple drank and beat the crap out of some little pudgy Obama supporters to celebrate!
“Patrisse Cullors is an artist, organizer and the author of “When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir.” She is the cofounder of Black Lives Matter and founder of Dignity and Power”
They left out fiction writer.

The author of this propaganda would have us believe that if he had lived Trayvon would now be practicing medicine following undergraduate, medical school, internship and residency. He and Michael Brown could have done all of this together.
