Since 1991, Democrat Maxine Waters has been serving in the House of Representatives for the 35th District of California. She previously served for 14 years in the California State Assembly. Waters is passionate about ending poverty, joblessness and other issues that plague her district, which includes South Central L.A. Recently, she has been vocally opposed to the Tea Party Movement, notably saying, "The Tea Party can go to hell," and has challenged the Obama Administration on what she considers its failure to acknowledge the high rate of unemployment among African-Americans.
