I have three theories about what precipitated this. It could be a combination of these:

1. The questions swirling around about whether or not President Trump will answer any questions from Mueller bring a high level of uncertainty to the whole investigation.

2. If the Nunes memo is as damaging to the DOJ/FBI as I suspect, then Mueller may end up withdrawing the charges in this case.

3. Everyone knows President Trump is going to pardon Flynn anyway, so the delay may have been requested until the release of the Nunes memo and other falling dominoes in Washington put Trump in a much stronger position (politically) to do it.

From the court's perspective, this is still hanging ...

Dec 12, 2017 STANDING ORDER as to MICHAEL T. FLYNN requiring the government to produce any evidence in its possession that is favorable to the defendant and material to either the defendant's guilt or punishment.
Standing Order

The status report gave no indication that this production has occurred, and did not shift responsibility for request for extension to defendant.

Plea bargain - Dec 1, 2017
Case reassigned - Dec 7, 2017
