My cousin is an anesthesiologist. I think she is really smart, but she works 13 hours every day and perhaps doesn't have time to think. She is saying the dumbest leftist things, but I know she is not a bad person.
Perhaps you guys have some pieces of advice on how to talk with your family when they've been fooled like that.
I have read all the advice and I think I just need to talk with her a bit more and I need to put in the effort. The breaking point was at where people assumed she is going to meet my arguments with lies, but since I know she doesn’t lie then I know there is still hope for her.
Good suggestion. I have been able to do that. To forgive, and let go, after their death. Even my dad. He was a giant of a man and used to beat us three girls. Skinny little things that we were. He was always angry and screaming and cussing. Honestly, I
have tried and tried and cannot remember WHY he beat my little sister with a switch. She was a good kid. I don’t remember her ever doing ANYTHING that deserved a beating. I had bruises and knots all over my skinny legs from belt and buckles beating me. All it did was make me fear him and dislike him, hate him even.
But once he passed I was able to look past some of this. He didn’t smoke or drink. I don’t think he was angry and screaming and cussing at us all the time because “he wanted to be that way” I have talked to some of my best childhood/neighbor friends and NONE of them knew he was like that at home. He was the smiling jovial
jokester in public. He could always tell a great joke, great timing, punch line delivered at right time, perfectly. Made everyone laugh. But I used to hope he would die in a wreck on the way home. He was so big and loud and mean. He only socked me in the face one time. Thankfully. He could have killed me.
But after he passed I kept trying to forgive him. Too bad they didn’t have anger management classes back then.
One time he even yelled at my daughter when she was only about 3 or 4 years old. Scared me to death. Our kids really wanted nothing to do with him after that.
My mother is almost 90 and she is so mean to me. I don’t go around her. I hate that. But she keeps insulting me in front of our kids. She talks like I was a slut, I wasn’t! I was skinny, ugly, awkward, insecure, shy, quiet kid, afraid of my own shadow. I was convinced by her that I was terribly ugly and stupid. I managed to grad from university in 4 years paying my own way.
She now says “I didn’t want you in the first place, not when I had you, not that time of year and most ceretainly, NOT ANOTHER GIRL!” As if I had a choice in that~ I was a “large” baby - about 8 lbs, like my three kids were, no big deal... but she kept complaining about that, too. I kicked when in utero. Babies do that. I am sure I didn’t do it to hurt her.
She told my husband “It might interest you to learn that Barbara only went on one family trip, to Arkansas, to visit Aunt Winnie” I say “WHO IS AUNT WINNIE” I have no idea. But I do remember we went to OKC capital, Memphis, Six Flags over Texas, Colorado, Caliornia, ....

So if a liberal parent talks like this to their own children, no telling what they might say to you...
ah yes, the magic wig-it of success.
I usually tell the person that liberals are either 1) stupid, 2)uninformed, 3) dependent on the government (on welfare, teacher, works for government, etc), or 4)a socialist/communist. I then say the majority of the working liberals fall in the 2nd category above. This gets the conversation going.
When politics comes up I just smile a say: "Oh you're so right about that."
That usually ends all conversation. I figure that reality will hit them
hard in the face one day and they'll wake up.
However, some are so deceived or hard core
nothing that happens will ever change their minds.
They're hopeless leftists. True believers.

To add ... I like and respect her and as I already said - she doesn’t lie. I just don’t understand how someone so smart can fall for the commie propaganda.

Do you have any idea how evil that statement was? That statement is dripping with leftism, nazism, and athiesm. This thinking is literally the earliest manifestation of the third Reichs murder spree in the 30s. The ones who weren’t worthy of living were euthanized. She has zero business being a doctor IMO. Who pays for it and who’s life is worth the time games isnt the business of some doctor. Her job is there on the table.
Her bitching about a heart procedure on an 80 year old is euthansia pure and simple. Denying life and death assistance that might give someone 5 more years is no different than killing them right then with a shot.
The first time I ever thought about politics was after the lothesome Clinton mess with Monica. At the time, my 5 yr old son looked at me with his big brown eyes and said “We aren’t very proud of our president are we?” We hadn’t discussed the issue with our young kids but they heard about it never the less. At that time the chorus around Clinton was “Character doesn’t matter if you’re doing a good job.” That was my epiphany, never on God’s green earth were those words EVER going to be spoken by me to my two sons. I have loathed those despicable people ever since.
I live behind enemy lines in Commiefornia. The thieves and crooks that run this state never run out of “good” ideas…zero consideration for $$$ or how their endless, suffocating regulations impact companies/employees/consumers. The thieves and crooks have no problem inserting themselves between a business and customer…virtue signaling is strong with them.
My whole family is liberal, good intentions are everything. There is no discussing anything with them. The solution is “Well, if you don’t like it then just leave….” Their solution is to chase businesses and our civic-minded, hard-working, tax-paying, contributing members to their schools, neighborhoods and communities out of state.
Yup, that’s what we plan on doing.
Take them shooting/to the range/up in the hills as often as possible.
If she isn’t a liar then you have a shot. Dr’s like to talk science and numbers. That said they also tend to reject things not generally agreed upon by their peers.
Ask them for their source.
I have one brother-in-law who is insufferable about spouting his hard-left opinions. The last few times I asked him about his sources, he had to admit that they were Facebooks posts (politics) and a bumper sticker (religion.)
I didn’t need to say another word after that.
How do you talk to relatives who are politically stupid?
Family, friends, co-workers or just casual encounters my tactic is very simple.
I should first state that for most of these encounters where politics enters into the conversation, my counterpart doesn’t really know the extent of my Conservatism, but I generally know where they stand. Some are more passionate and vocal then others which I use to determine a starting point.
For the most part, I’ve found that if I express my disgust, hatred or mistrust of the Government, I will find common ground. This is easier to establish when a Republican is in office. They don’t or can’t separate “Government” from President, so if I’m anti-government with Trump in office it confuses them and opens the door. I exploit their fear of Government, how the government uses the media with their propaganda. I feed their natural tendencies to buy into conspiracies which are all designed to destroy them as individuals.
Hope I never wind up on that statist nazi’s table. How dare her bitch about the cost of surgery on an 85 year old? I bet there is a raft of crap she WOULD spend government money on like abortion, moslem migration, global warming research, etc.
