America's Constitution is terrible. Let's throw it out and start over.
The Week ^ | January 26, 2018 | Ryan Cooper

The American Constitution is an outdated, malfunctioning piece of junk — and it's only getting worse.

When written, the Constitution made a morally hideous compromise with slavery that took a war and 750,000 lives to make right. And while its basic structure sort of worked for awhile in the 20th century, the Constitution is now falling prey to the same defects that has toppled every other similar governing document the world over.

Be easier and cheaper if we keep the Constitution and throw out the queer.

The only significant mistake that I see in the Constitution was making so damn hard to replace judges or even hold them accountable for political overreach.

the constitution is not flawed... it is we the people that have lost our moral compass.

Yes, it is, just not the way the lefties think it is. The lefties think it is flawed because it gets in the way of their totalitarian "utopian" agenda. However, even the guys who wrote the Constitution recognized that it has weaknesses, such as the possibility of the judiciary overstepping its bounds, which we now have, and the weakness of the checks and balance system when coupled with political parties, as examples. My personal example of a flaw in the US Constitution is its failure to define its terms. That is why the lefties were able to get away with placing Obama in office - the term "natural born citizen" was never defined in the US Constitution and thus was subject to creative interpretation 200 years later. And on and on.

The Constitution was a great work, and has done well, but it should not be worshipped as infallible.

The major problem with America's Constitution is that it creates a system in which elections generally do not produce functioning governments...

Define "functioning government" - what does it mean to you? I suspect the writer wants a government system with a much more powerful and intrusive government, more active in the day to day lives of the people. {shudder} No thanks, no socialist utopia for me.

Most of the time, control of the House, Senate, and presidency is split between the two parties...

Yes, exactly. He's completely missed the point - that's how it was designed and intended to be. Sheesh, if he doesn't even grasp this simple concept their really no point in listening/reading any further, he has no idea what he's talking about.

This is getting worse over time. Even with unified control of government, a party now only gets one big law per year through the reconciliation process.

Good, though even that may be too many. How many "big" laws do we need? By "big" I'm assuming something with significant impact on our lives. Again, I'd really rather the government didn't have routine, ever more intrusive impact on my life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

Who ever this guy is, whether he admits it or not, he's a fascist/socialist longing for more government power and control.

Repeal the 17th Amendment and half the problems would be fixed.

ranked-vote system

The commies, er, Dems up here in Maine have tried this and even though the state Supreme Court ruled it was a no-go, they're still trying it.

Just like gay marriage they'll keep trying until it's passed and then it will be set in stone unchangeable. (we shot down gay marriage three times on ballot questions. It passed on the fourth try and now it's "set in stone can't bring it back. I hate liberals.)

This a$$hat demonstrates he really does not understand our founding and/or the nation’s history. The Constitution was carefully designed to make all governance very difficult. It was intended to limit that actions of a federal government. The founders presumed that anything important enough for the legislative body to consider for a new law, would take time, consideration effort. THIS IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK.

The whole design of the Constitution is to keep the Federal Government strong in only a few areas on behalf of the nation but impotent on governance of the people and/or the states in general.

The problem he has is that his government cannot take over as the lord god of all citizens and noble ruler of human beings fast enough for him.

The Constitution worked just fine regarding resolving slavery. The fact that it took a war to get the peoples representatives to sort out the separation of powers and officially amend the Constitution was a continuation of politics by other means

The Constitution was written for a virtuous Republic
We are living now, as we experienced at other times in history, with the consequences of a lack of virtue, not a flawed Constitution
Those who say you cant legislate morality have a point
