Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump is proposing giving 1.8 million young undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship in exchange for $25 billion for his long-promised wall and a host of other strict immigration cuts, according to a framework proposed Thursday. The outlines of the deal were described by a White House official for staff on Capitol Hill that CNN was given access to on Thursday afternoon. In what the White House official called a "dramatic concession," Trump would accept a path to citizenship for not just those originally eligible for DACA but for a broader population, adding up to 1.8 million people, the official said.

While what you are saying is true, if we don’t have something like this, the next president - either party - will make them citizens with nothing in return.
Wasn’t Kelly — the guy who bragged about changing Trump’s mind on this — the staffer who stayed in DC to “work on immigration”?
Sounds like he’s pushing this while Trump is focused elsewhere, so he doesn’t have time to rethink it and get right with his base on this again.
All the naysayers apparently didn’t watch all those Trump Campaign rallies and realized he would in fact grant an amnesty under strict conditions.
I’m okay with 1.8 million having a path to citizenship as long as we build the wall, end chain migration and diversity lottery and use merit based selection.
I think Trump played his hand well.
Something has to be done, if not, while we wait, people rush to have extended family members enter, illegals continue to invade and the loopholes are not closed. Doing nothing, is just that, doing nothing.

Complete transformation would include halting anchor babies, strict eVerify, laws against sanctuary city officials, ending welfare for non-citizens, VISA overstay enforcement and others. None of us know the whole plan, but I am skeptical. Congress needs cheap labor money on one side, and votes on the other.
Reagan’s Amnesty for 2.5 million led to an invasion of 25 million illegals.
40% of illegals are VISA overstays. The average immigrant brings in 7 chain migrants. God only knows how many anchor babies are out there.

The wall is important, but 40% of the current invaders are VISA overstays. Unless eVerify is strictly enforced, and welfare magnets are halted, the illegal immigrant invasion will continue. Wall or no wall.

Americans want politicians that do what they promise and say what they mean. We didn’t vote for amnesty. Amnesty is a magnetic carrot that will only bring in more.
I kind of like it (assuming CNN is fully accurate here, which is a big if).
So long as strict enforcement and wall construction begins immediately. That’s really the key. And as another pointed out, strong penalties for those who continue to hire illegals (to encourage self deportation).
Without self deportation, there’s no way enforced deportation will do it alone. Similarly, without strict enforced deportation, and stiff fines for those employing these people, self deportation will be minimal.
Well, the Wall funds will be in a trust fund, so hate to say it but it doesn’t sound like it will be immediately constructed BUT, I thought some of it was presently being built. Lots of government process and red tape is bound to be in all of this.

Not all the kids were born here. Many were brought over and many are not innocent babes in arms or toddlers. We separate families all the time in the USA. If an American parent breaks a law and is sent to prison the family unit is split up so crossing the border is illegal and the parents at least should be deported
Because, if he should end up signing ANY BILL giving ANY ILLEGALS a path to CITIZENSHIP which does not require them to leave this country and get in the back of the line, he will forevermore be known as "LYIN' TRUMP" in my corner of the universe.
At most, a COMPROMISE could have only "the best and brightest" offered permanent resident alien (GREEN CARD) status with NO PATH TO CITIZENSHIP other than the aforementioned get-out-and-get-to-the-back-of-the-line option.
Of course, for this to be done PROPERLY, the Executive Branch would already be ENFORCING CURRENT LAW and working to SECURE THE BORDER. Once it's proven secure, ONLY THEN should any talks begin concerning what to do with the illegals who remain here.
