Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is one of the largest cities in the world without a central sewage system. Most of the more than 3 million residents use outhouses and rely on workers with some of the worst jobs in the world, hauling away human excrement by hand one bucket at a time. The men are called bayakou, and they work in the dark by candlelight. Rebecca Hersher spent a night with a group of them.

Because they would steal the trucks, and use them to deliver the drinking water every other week (after rinsing it out with seawater). That’s how shithole countries work in real life.
Thats my job.....creating nightmares.
And if I do say so myself, I do a damn fine job of it.
The funniest part of the article was as this reporter was watching this naked man in the bottom of an outhouse, scooping out the poo they saw something that truly freaked out an American leftist;
“At one point, the photographer with me freaks out.
UNIDENTIFIED PHOTOGRAPHER: Oh, oh. Oh, my God.
HERSHER: There’s a gun in the latrine (laughter).
They look the gun over, determine it doesn’t work and move on.”
That’s right folks. Watching what they were watching was just fine. But he found a dreaded GUN and they almost lost their composure.
The Clinton Foundation Motto......
We raised billions for Haiti and now theyre only in the shirt up to their knees. They could be in the shirt up to their eyeballs like we are!
I’m surprised the gun didn’t attack them all.
A sh!thole by another other name would stink as bad.
Pumped? Trucks?
Haiti is perplexed by the linguistic conundrum:
Take a sh*t vs. leave a sh*t.
ergo ...
Will Conan O’Brien going to interview these guys when he takes his show to Haiti? That would be fantastic!
I usually use the phrase “Sack of Durbin”, but “Bucket of Durbin” also works.
The 1st World: “Study hard, kids or you’ll wind up in a series of dead end jobs for the rest of your life.”
Haiti: “Apply yourself, Edouard. You may get hired on by the bayakou and get your own bucket and candle.”
By definition, Haiti: This.
Can’t believe National Proletariat Radio reported this.
2018. Exposed to civilization for how long? STILL living like animals? AND no one can point it out as a BAD thing?
Haiti has been given hundreds of billions in aid but will never get better because it is mired in ignorance, corruption and voodoo.
“dont buy any Haitian wine until you can make sure the natives dont stomp on the grapes”
Haitian...what’s a grape?
In the olden days of Europe people were hired to do the same. It was used as fertilizer on fields. Are there any fields in Haiti?
In Italy alley ways became open outhouses.
In the Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio there is a great tale of a man who fell into such an area, ended up being washed off in a drinking water well. No wonder Italians preferred wine.
The description $#!+hole is accurate, whether Trump said it or not.
Reminds me of my deployment to Asia back in 1968 and 1969.
On the other hand when I went to Baja back in 2000, they had flush toilets but no toilet paper. We were told to buy two sheets from the man with a desk in front of the restrooms, whether you needed it or not. Behind the man was an armed policeman. We bought.
