DETROIT His arms wrapped around his wife and two teenage children, Jorge Garcia's eyes welled up Monday as he looked into their eyes one last time near the entrance to the airport security gate.
His wife, Cindy Garcia, cried out while his daughter, Soleil, 15, sobbed into Garcia's shoulder as they hugged, with two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents keeping a close eye on them.
After 30 years of living in the United States, Jorge Garcia, a 39-year-old landscaper from Lincoln Park, Mich., was deported on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to Mexico, a move his supporters say is another example of immigrants being unfairly targeted under the Trump administration.
An undocumented family member brought Jorge Garcia to the U.S. when he was 10 years old. Today he has a wife and two children, all of whom are U.S. citizens.
Jorge Garcia had been facing an order of removal from immigration courts since 2009, but under the previous administration, he had been given stays of removal. Because of the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration, in November Jorge Garcia was ordered to return to Mexico.

Trying to see a downside here....
I guess we can count on the Sad Sack of the Day Story on each holiday, going forward. There was that woman on Christmas, and now this guy on MLK Day. You just know some poor slob is going to get the boot on Presidents Day, and probably a half dozen on Easter.
They are so predictable.
Why the HELL didn’t they go back with him, and why the HELL are they American Citizens.
Bunch of scumbags, must not like their father much.
I suspect he was successfully living under the radar and didn’t want to rock the boat by getting involved with the legal system. Once in Mexico, if his “American” family stays, he can apply to come back by chains.
After 30 years of living in the United States and he never obtained his citizenship the lazy idiot need to be deported he’s of no use.
OK, so “he pays taxes every year...” How does he do this if he’s here illegally? Using a fake SS#?
Well bye bye pal maybe an American can take over the business you left behind.
How can they work without a SS number?
There was an amnesty in 1994, and extension of that amnesty in 1997, and another amnesty in 2000. Why did he decide to remain illegal?
He decided to remain illegal because he knew no one would be looking for him. No one chasing him.
Either that or he’s just stupid.
This guy almost certainly has a criminal history that he and his advocates are not telling us about. Would explain why he came to DHS/ICE attention in the first place. Would explain his non-legalization to date.
Most use fraudulent SS#s and some work jobs that pay under the table.
800,000 is what they told us in 1986, turned out to be 3.5 million.
There are now 30 million illegal aliens.
10 times the number we amnestied in 1986.
Every bill introduce so far greatly expands eligibility to 3-4 million.
It will not be 800,000.
What do employers do about tax withholding?
If they are using a fraudulent SS#, same procedure as always.
The IRS and SS both know that millions of numbers are used fraudulently and does not notify the actual SS# holder.
They sometimes send the employer a “no match” letter.
The employee provides another fraudulent number and the dance begins again.
Lots of subcontractors pay cash and do not bother with taxes, worker’s comp., insurance, etc.
When those subcontractors pay cash it cannot be a business deduction, unless they file 1099s. If the file 1099s then the IRS knows who got paid. How does that work? Why would a contractor walk away from a legit business deduction?
They may very well do 1099’s to whatever name the illegal alien is using.
He had 30 years to get a green card and then become a citizen.
