Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D.) suggested Thursday that he would knock out President Donald Trump during a debate if Trump tried to intimidate him or get in his space.
Asked by MSNBC's Chris Matthews what he would do if Trump tried to intimidate him as Hillary Clinton said he was trying to do during their 2016 town hall debate, McAuliffe said Trump would have to be picked up off the floor.
"What would you do in a debate with him if he tried that? If he came over and leaned over back of you, what would you do?" Matthews asked.
"You would have to pick him up off the floor," McAuliffe said.
Matthews cracking up in laughter at that thought, followed up with McAuliffe.
"OK, you mean, you'd deck him?" Matthews asked.
"Listen, this guy got in my space, you want to get in my space, I've always said, Chris, you punch me back twice as hard, and it wouldn't be hard to do it," McAuliffe said. "This guy thinks he can intimidate everybody. It's disgraceful and embarrassing, but I tell you, when we take him on, back in his face with the facts, don't take anything from him and hit him back as hard as you possibly can."
"But if he ever came over and leaned on me and got in my space, that would be the last time Donald Trump ever did that, I promise you that," McAuliffe added.
Matthews thanked McAuliffe for his "performance" and told McAuliffe his comments "will go viral."
"You sound like an Irish-American politician," Matthews said.
McAuliffe, who is about to leave office, has consistently given coy responses when asked if he's running for president in 2020.

McAuliffe will be the DNCs designated candidate in 2020.
I have up close seen McAuliffe; he is lightweight and Trump would probably kick his arse.

Now, if McAuliffe wasn’t just a TV tough guy and actually took a swing at President Trump, Secret Service would be all over him like bottle-nosed flies on fresh horse droppings.

This disease has taken over almost everybody in this nation. People don’t even know how to discuss things anymore - even at the business table.
One second after punching the POTUS, McAuliffe would be facing the business end of several pistols. The SS is trained to first make sure the POTUS is safe, then to sort out the problem. Of course, that assumes that his tough talk is just that and I have no doubt that is all it is: big talk.
Why would Trump waste his time debating him? Once again the left is pushing violence. They want it too.
And what then happens when Eric Trump who is 34, almost half McAuliffe’s age, and is 6’5” stomps his big mouthed old ass into the ground for hitting his father?
Oh yea and there is Don Jr who is 40 and 6’2”.
I get the impression he’s more likely to try and give Trump pink-belly. Seems somewhat fey.
So, the new big lie about Trump is that HE got in Hillary’s space during the debates? Is that the memo sent out this morning? “Talk about what a bully Trump is.” Have they no political ideas to debate?
Of course we all know that this NEVER happened; Hillary walked over in front of Trump 4 times in about 15 minutes, not the other way around. This lie just keeps getting repeated.
