There were no commercial passenger jet deaths anywhere in the world last year. It's a remarkable record, but is it fair for President Donald Trump to claim some of the credit?
The facts tell a different story. Global and U.S. commercial aviation deaths have been trending downward for more than a decade due to a variety of factors.

Looks like he was claiming some credit - why was last year the best and safest on record?
But that's Trump, and people knew that from the election. It didn't matter then, it doesn't matter now.
ATC: Air Traffic Control
If it goes down, he gets the credit.
That is the way the game is played, people.
It didn't go up. It didn't go down. It stayed the same. What credit is due under those circumstances.
Speaking of snail’s trails...
Where Trump trolls the MSM follows. ;-)
Neither Trump nor his new policies had anything to do with the downward trend in aviation accident fatalities. But if he wants to take credit, eh, so what? Good that he is insisting on strictly enforcing the FAR's (Federal Aviation Regulations).
He better be careful, though. I've worked in the industry for more than 30 years and I promise you there will be deaths from mishaps in the future. Will he still want to take credit then?? If he really wants to affect real, sustained improvements he should look at reforming the FAA which has become nothing more than a Federal jobs program for the marginal players in the industry.
My entirely subjective first reaction to this ammouncement is that it is a prelude to an entirely different announcement. The announcement is relatively banal and the facts it presents are relatively banal. Therefore IMHO Trump might be on the verge of announcing a real demonstrably changed statistic, such as “the number of federal indictments is up 900% over previous years’ rates.” And then hold the MSM’s feet to the fire if they omit reporting the announcement. The MSM would be hypocritical if it called attention to this announcement as not reporting change so much as a continuation of the status quo, and then ignoring an announcement containing a real change. I guess we will just wait and see...
BTW I noticed that the WH press seemed much more subdued today towards Sanders than some recent previous press conferences. Is the MSM finally backing off and taking Trump’s presidency seriously instead of just heaping scorn on it?
The President made a statement and folks ASSUME an absolute conclusion from it. He is living in people’s heads. Even people on this forum.....best President ever.
Awwwww, if only he would STOP TWEETING, right?
The Fraud took credit for EVERYTHING good (not much) that happened during his illegal reign.
I’ll forgive President Trump for continuing to piss off Big Media.
AssPress (aka AmericanPravda) can’t claim credit for checking facts
The President said last year was the best and safest year ever. What made it that?
Those are fake headlines, the real ones they use read like grocery store checkout tabline headlines
Did he say that he was responsible for the best and safest year or are YOU assuming that he took credit? His latest statement made 2 points. He did not connect those points, he let others assume the connection. Classic Trump.
Yes, anymore they do.
And sadly, those supermarket line tabloids, have MORE credibility. At least they get some things right, or at least some parts of things right..
I dont see him taking credit. He might be implying it, but he certainly did state so.
Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news - it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!”
Er...no...
I love Trumps tweets.
I just wish he would a bit more judicious in the way he would use it...
I’m inclined to agree...not *full* credit at least. However,we all know that the guy who claimed the power to stop the rise of sea levels wouldn’t hesitate to claim *full* credit...over,and over, and over again.
They would have given Zero the credit in a heartbeat.
>>>They would have given Zero the credit in a heartbeat.
We haven’t had a fatality in the US since 2009. I can’t say I have heard anyone given any credit for no fatalities in the years 2010 to 2016. Can you cite a case where Obama was given credit for that?
This actually seems like a risky statement for the President to make, as he now has responsibility for any commercial aviation crash that takes place anywhere in the world in the next three years.
