Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the longest serving Republican Senator in U.S. history, announced Tuesday he is retiring from the Senate at the end of his term.
This is a blow to the Trump administration. Trump encouraged Orrin Hatch to run for re-election.
Trump and Bannon have been working to block RINO hack Mitt Romney from running for the Utah Senate seat.
Mitt Romney has until March 15 to file for Hatchs Senate seat.

Oh please...
That’s absurd.
Nickcarraway, what the heck?
UT will show in 2018 that like her neighbor AZ she is incapable of choosing a decent senator.
Or more likely, he just wanted the RINO.
The bottom line is they won. Those candidates won't win primaries anymore. And if they do again somehow, Trump & McConnell will crush that candidate.
Oh, please. How many Freepers go on and on about how Republicans who go against Trump will be punished.
You have no evidence that is true. In fact, that's the opposite of what claimed and ran on. Strange was his guy.He put him there by nominating Sessions.
If you hadn’t noticed before, Nick Carraway is a douche nozzle.
Roy Moore had no business running. Alabamans didn't want him either times he ran for governor and was thoroughly trounced. The only statewide election he ever won for judge, Romney pulled him across the finish line and Moore still received a whopping 400,000 votes less that Romney got.
And this was before the nation had ever heard of Leigh Corfman.
Seriously, just stop it. Stop nominating losers and stop encouraging others to nominate losers.
Nickcarraway, there is too much information out there for you to pull this “NeverTrump” routine here.
Trump did not lead the effort to defeat Moore. He endorsed him. He made favorable comments about him prior to the special election.
Name one other major Republican who did.
I’m not sure what has blinded you to obvious truth on this topic, but you need to stop spewing this nonsense here.
The idea Trump would not have wanted Moore because he was too Conservative, is mindless blather.
That is yet one more wedge comment to distance Trump from his supporters, and I’m not buying it at all.
You are dead wrong on this issue.
Trump did not come out and endorse Moore until right before Thanksgiving, after all the accusations, and it's very debatable the quality of the endorsement.
Typical liberal response to a conservative.
I wouldn't even call Moore a conservative. He's a maverick. But Strange was a full on RINO. But the fact is Trump backed Strange 100%, and the night before the primary he threatened that Moore would lose in the general. Sorry, that's a fact.
You seem to be very knowledgeable about other elections involving Moore, and know absolutely nothing about this one.
You’re not fooling anyone with this tripe.
With every trick in the book pulled against Moore in this election, he still came in only 1.5% behind his opponent.
You seem to think a candidate can win elections with no party support at all, and while Trump more or less proved a man could, you’re clueless if you think Republican efforts in this campaign didn’t cost Moore at least 20,000 votes. You also seem to think being outspent 10-14 to 1, had no impact.
This is GOPe propaganda whether you realize it or not.
Mitch McConnell couldn’t have scripted your post any better.
You guys are literally helpless on this subject.
I touched on the level of support he gave, but that being said, it’s undeniable that it was more support than ANY OTHER leading Republican gave.
I don’t follow others around on the forum and check out what they say. I run into people and address issues with them. I’m doing it here.
It seems to me that people’s own comments pretty well out them at least on the issue at hand.
It’s up to the posters themselves (going back and reconsidering) and readers to determine if these are “NeverTrump”, “GOPe”, or “McConnell / Ryan” type comments or not.
On this thread, I think they are.
The question is this:
Could these arguments against Moore’s candidacy be expected be more likely uttered by Mitch McConnell/Paul Ryan/a GOPe lackey, or by a Trump supporter?
I’m not seeing them as being the type of things a Trump supporter would have said.
That makes it crystal clear to me.
*Older than me but younger than Mitt,I mean. :-)
Hmm, where might Trump have gotten that idea? It was verbatim what McConnell and the GOPe were saying. On some things I think Trump allows others to take the lead. When it comes to state elections where he’s not absolutely sure what direction to go, he is willing to defer.
I don’t have a problem with that at the primary level. I obviously have my own opinion on it, and I think the best man won the primary. I would have liked to have seen him come out more solidly for Moore.
Trump was reticent to back Moore after the allegations were leveled. He had to see how it all played out. He had already been charged with abusing women. He had to be careful.
Toward the end of the campaign for the special election, he did endorse Moore. His endorsement could also have been seen as a rallying cry against Moore, by Leftists.
This wasn’t an easy call and I think Trump did the best he could under the circumstances.
Once again though, you have reverted to trashing Trump.
Nickcarraway, you are not doing yourself any favors here.
.. and the night before the primary he threatened that Moore
would lose in the general. ..
************
President Trump did as you said and he proved to be correct.
snip.
On September 22, President Trump predicted that Roy Moore would likely lose to
his Democrat opponent in the general election. He explained,
I have to say this, and you understand this and just look at the polls. Luther
will definitely win. Roy has a very good chance of not winning in the general
election. It’s all about the general. Don’t forget, we don’t stop here. You have
an election coming up the day this is over. So this is over on Tuesday. On
Wednesday morning, the new race begins. You’ve got to beat a Democrat. Luther
is going to win easily and Roy’s going to have a hard time winning.
end snip
Actually, it seems the opposite. He didn't come out and endorse him until the accusations started piling up.
He gave support after those charges had been aired, and they started to unravel.
That seems like a sensible thing to do.
Ted Cruz was calling for Moore to step aside within hours of the reports hitting the street.
