What's The Temperature Where You Are?
National Weather Service ^ | 12/31/17 | ROCKLOBSTER

Posted on 12/31/2017 3:01:17 PM PST by ROCKLOBSTER

Dangerously cold temperatures will be in place tonight to ring in the new year for many locations located east of the Rocky Mountains. Locations across the Northeast and as far south as Kansas into Ohio will be below zero at midnight with wind chills of -20 to -40 for many of these locations. Therefore, locations from northeastern Montana into portions of the Midwest and Northeast are under a Wind Chill Warning with Wind Chill Advisories in place as far south as the central Gulf Coast through Monday morning. Monday's highs will stay below freezing for much of Texas to the Carolinas which is a good 20 to 30 degrees below average.

Winter weather advisories are currently in effect for western and northern Texas as well as across the lower Mississippi valley where light accumulations of snow and freezing rain could cause slick conditions through Monday morning. Monday evening through Tuesday will be mostly dry across the lower 48 with the exception of rain showers for Florida and snow showers the Great Lakes. Snowfall accumulations downwind of the Great Lakes are expected to be locally heavier across the eastern U.P. of Michigan and east of Lakes Erie and Ontario where additional totals of roughly 6-12 inches are in the forecast through Tuesday evening.

Needless to say, temperatures will remain well below average for most locations east of the Rockies into the middle of the week but some moderation is expected across the central and northern High Plains starting Tuesday with downslope flow developing. The Southwest will remain warm and dry into the middle of the week with temperatures ranging between 5 to 15 degrees above early January normals.

Near Charleston SC we’re at 40 now but supposed to dip down below freezing from midnight until noon. With wind chill factor they’re predicting –273.15 degrees Celsius. All molecular activity won’t stop, it will just feel like it.

I remember watching it on TV as a family tradition, growing up; so it’s kind of a fond memory. But I wouldn’t want to be out there even on a good-weather night...

63 on my back porch right now (8:42 p.m.), but the windows ARE closed out there, so it’s probably a little cooler.

Cold enough that I brought the stray kitty I’ve been feeding outside for about a year into the house. He’s not real happy about and neither am I...lol
Getting down to 22 tonight and hovering between 19 to 25 rest of week near Wetumpka, Al.
(He’s not truly feral. Actually affectionate, but hates being inside).

Well when we were kids it was a big deal for sure......but you’d think NY City would have added flare other than TV pundits sitting on stools trying to be happy.....

Got some frostbite in my fingers a couple years back fightin' off 30" with a snowblower, and they've been more/less cold ever since.

Ever since, if at all possible, anything below 50° is  nope, it'll keep til next week!  weather   ;-)

Clark Co. IN outdoor thermometer reading 12F and tomorrow’s high is not supposed to be much higher. Then colder the next evening close to “0”

The dogs don’t seem to mind going out though so that’s good!

73 degrees on my mountain in the ancient Kingdom of the Great Tenoch. Tenochitlan, Mexico City. outskirts. Safe Keeping the monarch butterflies while they rest and get ready to leave at the end of Februrary for So Texas.

Interesting. I just watched "Flight of the Butterflies" on Netflix about 2 weeks ago. So they're right in your neighborhood for now?

Well that should make for good eagle watching near the lock and dam, with them working the few areas not frozen over.

You must be on one of the south slopes, up here in my little bowl valley it got down to 12F last night only warmed up to 22F today, sun shiny and nice day to work though.
Being on the slopes of the Alps keeps the temps down.
I hope to soon see the official STATE OF JEFFERSON on my maps.

Good on you.....I keep checking the covered box I fixed up on the deck but no foot prints to indicate any strays finding their way there.

We’re suppose to hit 10-15 below here...brought the other oil filled heater into the living area here and closed off the bedroom so I’ll sleep on the sofa tonight cozy...
