2018 is upon us and California gun owners are sprinting to stock up on ammunition before a new law bans home deliveries. Thats right. Next year, ammunition can no longer be shipped to your home in The Golden State. Itll have to be sent to a firearms dealer with a federal firearms license or any other entity thats been approved by the Department of Justice. And yes, a background check will be required prior to the transfer (via CBS San Francisco):
Ammunition sales across California are skyrocketing heading into the end of the year, but the deals have nothing to do with Christmas or holiday sales.Direct-mail ammo sales are up 187 percent over last year, with some of the biggest increases are in the Bay Area.
In Concord, sales have rocketed 968 percent. In Santa Clara, sales have spiked 315 percent.
California hunters and gun enthusiasts are stocking up on ammunition this holiday season with online sales.
Come January 1, ammo purchased online cant be delivered to your doorstep. It will have to be shipped to a licensed dealer that has been approved by the Department of Justice.

Startting July of 2019, California residents will need to have a background check prior to purchasing ammo.
The new ammunition provision is part of a bunch of new gun laws the state is enacting starting in 2018. Of course, anti-gun groups say this is not a move to prevent law-abiding gun owners from purchasing ammunition. Its to prevent criminals and other prohibited persons from having access to ammunition.
Unconstitutionally: violation of ICC and 2nd Amendment to start.
You would think that CA residents would go to NV and buy ammo with cash at a gun show.
Meh. Now they can go to Nevada for gambling AND ammo.
And here in WA my dad received six boxes of 20 .223 ($4.47ea) from Cabela’s via FedEx. Shopping from home.
Does Feinstein have enough ammo for her own guns?
I despise CA.
Blatant discrimination against minorities! Why, they will have to show an ID to get ammo and we all know that minorities cannot get identification cards for things like voting.
If they haven’t stocked up on ammo by now they need to go to a physician and a surgeon and get their head out of their butt.
Sounds like opening a gun store just over the border in Nevada would be a good investment.
Of course, the California authorities would likely surveil the place, and hassle any customers on their return to California. .
You would think that CA residents would go to NV and buy ammo with cash at a gun show.
Apparently that’s no longer legal either.
I despise CA.
So does CA. Look what they do to them selves.
“You would think that CA residents would go to NV and buy ammo with cash at a gun show.”
You have to be very careful about doing that, because the CADOJ has agents on site at Nevada gun shows. They check license plates in the parking lot then track the drivers to see what they purchase. They have been doing that for years looking for “illegal” firearms sales to CA residents, the ammo bit will just add to their “workload.” I do imagine that local gun stores will be having a lot of “cash” ammunition sales in Reno and Las Vegas though.
The only way around this nonsense is for the NRA and/or CalGuns to take the state to court, and I think that’s already happening. In the meantime, ammunition for CA residents will be like untaxed cigarettes in NY.
Be careful, or you’ll get the usual contingent of CA FReepers who’ll brag about how there’s more CA FReepers than anywhere else and that they contribute the most to the FReeperthons, and that they’re state is far more beautiful than your state. How is that relevant to CA being controlled by open-border Marxists, I don’t know.
“You would think that CA residents would go to NV and buy ammo with cash at a gun show.”
As of January 1 it will be illegal for CA residents to do that too.
In reality transporting ammunition to CA via car will be virtually unenforceable. The CA DOJ would have to depend on state and local law enforcement to do this and that won’t happen unless the transporter is committing more serious crimes. Not close to having enough manpower.
F California.
California proving, yet again, to be the land of “fruits and nuts”...
Seriously - I laugh every time I see a tag or marking on a box that warns of grave health issues, cancer, reproductive health damage, etc.... in the state of California...
Seriously? These things are only an issue in California? Or are they simply ridiculously over-sensitive snowflakes...oh... wait...
So now the state requires a background check to purchase ammunition? How much is that going to add to the cost of a box of ammo?
Also - isn’t this simply another tax on a constitutional right?
Who’s going to file the first lawsuit challenging the constitutionality?
The case has been similar here in MA, except that rather than a law banning mail ordering ammo, its a licensing decree by the AG that carries no weight outside of MA. Some venders will mail ammo to MA residents (or so I’ve heard, that is) as it is absolutely legal — although even some normally reliable online resources list it as illegal because MA’s gun laws are intentionally vague —, but many simply don’t want the bother and have a blanket “no sales to MA” policy. I know I’ve salivated more than once over ammo deals I have no access to. I imagine some drive to NH but even from Boston that’s a bit of a drive, and I can’t comment on the legality of it — I assume it’s perfectly legal but this is MA. I can’t believe too many people in a huge state like CA, except those right near the state line, can afford to drive to NV just to buy ammo.
so Californication is YET AGAIN adopting blatantly unconstitutional “laws”.....restrictions....tyrannical measures..........(which are also idiotic)....
and where are the lawyers to stop this krap?
