You would think that CA residents would go to NV and buy ammo with cash at a gun show.

Apparently that’s no longer legal either.

You have to be very careful about doing that, because the CADOJ has agents on site at Nevada gun shows. They check license plates in the parking lot then track the drivers to see what they purchase. They have been doing that for years looking for “illegal” firearms sales to CA residents, the ammo bit will just add to their “workload.” I do imagine that local gun stores will be having a lot of “cash” ammunition sales in Reno and Las Vegas though.
The only way around this nonsense is for the NRA and/or CalGuns to take the state to court, and I think that’s already happening. In the meantime, ammunition for CA residents will be like untaxed cigarettes in NY.

As of January 1 it will be illegal for CA residents to do that too.
In reality transporting ammunition to CA via car will be virtually unenforceable. The CA DOJ would have to depend on state and local law enforcement to do this and that won’t happen unless the transporter is committing more serious crimes. Not close to having enough manpower.
