Bannon adviser: Ryan challenger Paul Nehlen is 'dead to us' after inflammatory tweets
CNN ^ | December 27, 2017 | Oliver Darcy

Breitbart executive chairman Steve Bannon has cut ties with Paul Nehlen, the far-right activist who is challenging Paul Ryan for his congressional seat and who has received extremely favorable coverage from Breitbart in the past.

"Nehlen is dead to us," said Arthur Schwartz, an adviser of Bannon's who is familiar with the former White House chief strategist's thinking.

Nehlen, who became a lightning rod for his anti-immigrant views, has escalated his rhetoric in recent days with a number of incendiary tweets.

In one tweet, Nehlen proudly revealed that he is reading "The Culture of Critique," a book about Jewish culture widely considered to be anti-semitic. In other tweets, he has used the "#ItsOkayToBeWhite" hashtag.

The inflammatory online activity has drawn fierce scrutiny from Nehlen's critics, and beckoned the question whether Breitbart, which previously published highly supportive coverage of his candidacy, still supported him.

When Nehlen challenged Ryan during the 2016 Republican primary, Breitbart dispatched Mathew Boyle, one of its top writers, to Wisconsin. Throughout the race, Boyle taunted Ryan on the campaign trail with outlandishly negative stories while simultaneously writing positive articles about Nehlen. Ryan ultimately walloped Nehlen by a margin of 84% to 16%.

But Breitbart and Bannon, a former White House chief strategist, have recently moved to distance themselves from him.

Nehlen, who previously published material on Breitbart, has seen his author page scrubbed entirely from the far-right website. Moreover, Joel Pollak, a senior editor at Breitbart, publicly denounced Nehlen on Twitter.

"We don't support him," Pollak tweeted late Tuesday night, adding that Nehlen had "disqualified" himself. As of Wednesday afternoon, Breitbart had not denounced Nehlen on its website. A Google search returned no articles this week about Nehlen's latest tweets or statements.

Tell me this is missing the quotation marks and the attribution to Nancy Pelosi.

Because Ryano is a Democrat. We want a Republican speaker (at a minimum).

What is your problem?

You can’t make your points (and you have several good points) without calling people “asswipe” and telling people to “FOAD”?

These dick weeds come on here and try to make hay out of Nehlen’s meltdown. Nehlen may turn out to be a David Duke clone but that in no way exonerates Paul Ryano. Which is what these Rovian sycophants are trying to do. They are Establishment globalist Free Traitor™ hacks and have been posting for years and most of them are anti Trump ass wipes. They deserve no respect.

I see manners are a difficult concept for you.
I suggest you find another forum where grade school level behavior is acceptable.

Was there a piece of legislation that couldn't get introduced in the House because Paul Ryan was standing in the way? Was there a piece of legislation that was botched because Ryan couldn't get his act together?

I didn't think so.

Why don't you make a New Year' resolution to stop being so miserable here on FreeRepublic?

Who is the Republican House member you are supporting for Speaker?

I'll bet $100 that the person you have in mind doesn't even want the job. LOL.

Ryano is not stupid. He knows the wall is the most important part of the Trump agenda. He would be pushing for it if he wasn’t POS GOPe hack. So don’t give me your BS. Ryano is just like McConnell except he is equipped with a neck and chin.

He knows the wall is the most important part of the Trump agenda.

If your first premise is wrong, then that explains why everything else you post after that is wrong.

The wall is only the most important part of the Trump agenda for people like Ann Coulter who value zany theatrics over substance. You could build a wall 1,000 feet high along the entire border, and we'd still have a very serious problem with illegal immigration.

When Trump said “wall” that is when anyone with a brain knew he was going to win. It’s about the wall. All of you Republicans are so stupid. For a mere $20 billion, the cost of a complete southern wall, you guys could secure a Republican majority for ever. But you guys are stupid as hell.

Now you’re just making sh!t up. Everyone with a brain knew he was going to win? LOL. Trump basically won because a lot of black voters stayed home. Did they stay home because he said “wall?”

It’s not okay to be white?

No. It's not. If you are white, you should kill yourself.

So say racist, leftist college professors.

And that's not satire.

Stop buying Trump’s self-promoting “landslide” hype. A very small number of voters in a few key states made all the difference in the world for him.

Oh come on. It was an historic event. An electoral land slide against all odds.

I agree it was historic.

One thing that made it historic was that it was so unexpected -- which contradicts what you said about "the wall."

I also know damn well that nobody should take anything for granted here. Trump and the GOP are going to have to fight hard to maintain the gains they made in 2016 -- and that means walking a fine line between what sells in a national campaign and what matters at a local level in House districts all over this country.

I knew he was going to win when he talked about the wall on day one. I am more in touch with the average person who is not a globalist Republican status quo type. Like you.

It was obvious to me and many here that he was gong to win.

Yes. I pointed out Ryan was going to easily win re-election and was attacked mercilessly by some for stating an obvious truth. You can and should Primary challenge someone, if you believe they are not doing their job, but believing that because you don’t like a congressmans actions means he’s not popular in his home district is lunacy.

Ryan isn’t perfect but he was never under any threat of losing his primary.
