The embattled National Football League announced its decision to cancel this weeks edition of Sunday Night Football on Tuesday; hoping to avoid a ratings bloodbath as a less-than-stellar line-up and New Years Eve festivities would have caused the NFL to reach embarrassing new lows.
The league opted to call-off the game before announcing which teams were scheduled to compete, adding the match-up wouldnt have playoff implications and would likely cost the already troubled organization millions of dollars.
We felt that both from a competitive standpoint and from a fan perspective, the most fair thing to do is to schedule all Week 17 games in either the 1 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. windows, said a spokesperson for the NFL.
The National Football League is struggling to wrap up its disastrous 2017 season, with millions of fans tuning out or staying home following months of player protests.
Industry insiders predict the demonstrations have cost the NFL over $500 million.
President Trump thrust the issue into the national spotlight earlier this year, calling for a national boycott of the NFL until officials and owners clamp-down on their athletes taking a knee during the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner.
The only one I tuned into was the Bills game where they were getting nailed with lake effect.
I did it just to laugh and be glad I was NOT there.
The stadium was deserted and it was NOT because of the weather. Bills fans are die-hard and a little lake snow does not stop them.
America’s new Super Bowl
Which NFL team can we bankrupt first
hahaha!
I remember that episode of Cheers!
I’ve only ever seen lake effect snow on TV. That’s close enough for me. :>)
My hubby is in the hospital recovering from surgery. While in ICU, he asked his nurse to change the channel to another station but NO FOOTBALL at NO TIME.......EVER!!!! Called the kneelers a bunch of ungrateful SOB’s. His nurse was so sweet and told him anything he wanted and he would make sure no football would be seen while in his care. We had to laugh.....I knew then he was well on his way to getting well.
It is far different down there.
However, the fan base, who go to the games, are primarily comprised of wealthy Uptown folks, middle upper class Metairie people,, white working class from the Westbank and the 86 wealthy people in Mississippi.
All groups are quite conservative.
And still they kneel!!!
The NFL is a hate group.
If the team is in contention, and the weather is decent, people will fill the stadium.
Did not happen during the recent Steelers-Patriots game.
Look....it is obvious from your posts that you have a lot of interest in the NFL, and that you are whistling past the graveyard. You are right that the NFL has not yet lost a lot of money, because revenues are based upon already negotiated broadcast deals. When it comes time to do that, the NFL will be in a horrible position and will lose money. They will pay their spoiled BLM players less....who will strike....and that will be that.
What you don’t seem to get is that there are millions of fans like me who used to love the NFL....I was a devout Broncos fan....who are now so upset at being lectured and disrespected by a bunch of rich spoiled felon thugs that we are leaving the game. The young generation is not filling the gap. The NFL will not die, but it will become a shadow of its former glory.
And the failure is well deserved. The sons-o-bitches running the league have earned what is coming to them. I hope they choke and die on it.
By the way...if you are still supporting the NFL then YOU are also disrespecting the flag. I hope it is worth it to you being such a traitor to our country
The rampage against English continues in the Conservative media.
To paraphrase Dolph Lundgren in “Rocky IV”:
“We Must Break You”...
The NFL can “Kneel” on that...
“I was a devout Broncos fan..”
I am devout, but never to a football team.
nobody is going to notice or care. the NFL is dead to me.
Great story. I’ll bet Rush could run with that one. Lol!
Then they put all the AFC wild card contenders in the late window.
To believe a game between the 69 Jets and the 69 Colts could be a better ratings than the planned game they had scheduled. Joe Namath would still be showboating.
He who expects optimal sentence structure from blogs
is tilting at a large windmill.
Our very rednecky local hole-in-the-wall bar and grill has a sign on the front door that says “NFL games will not be shown here”. We were there last weekend and the girls behind the bar said that it hasn’t hurt business at all. We don’t drink but they have the best chicken salad sandwiches in the world. OK, I will occasionally, but rarely, get a beer. :-)
I’ve driven through it so bad visibility was only a few feet.
You learn how to stay on the road other ways.
Part of life in NYS.
Bye bye, NFL.
Good riddance.
Enough of the troublemakers. Won’t be back.
