Consider the central puzzle to Trump's presidency: why did his own people give NeverTrumps a special counsel?
The most common explanation is that Trump is a bumbling fool. First, he colluded with Russia. Then he appointed Sessions, not knowing that Sessions would recuse himself. Finally, he appointed Rosenstein and was blindsided by the initiation of Mueller's probe.
The problem with this idea is that Trump has been a successful person for decades, building an empire in the cutthroat world of New York real estate. Maybe it's possible to argue that Trump isn't a Harvard bookworm, but there is an enormous gulf between not being the second coming of Henry David Thoreau and being what Trump's opponents say he is. His record simply does not countenance a serious conclusion in accord with his haters. At worst, he is merely competent, smart, and wily.
One of Trump's favorite quotes is "A leader has the right to be beaten, but never the right to be surprised." The idea that two independent Trump nominations to the most important parts of his administration immediately acted in tandem to undermine his presidency is not believable.
Some Trump-supporters have a different theory: that Mueller is actually on Trump's side, a "converted spy," as Imperator_Rex would write. Mueller is a Marine veteran who wants to support the American people but was forced into being Obama and Hillary's agent. Trump knows that Mueller will do what is right when given the chance. The investigation will boomerang back against Democrats.
Though this is a thought-provoking theory that accepts the premise that Trump is fundamentally a competent actor, it also fails. Mueller's character was definitively established when, as FBI director, he oversaw the Anthrax Letters investigation to find out who mailed anthrax, weeks after 9/11

> It has been suggested that Trump made Mueller an offer he couldnt refuse to ensure his cooperation.
My problem with this theory is that any “offer” Trump might make would be twisted by the Dem to be obstruction of justice. So that is my basis for rejecting this theory.
What the article proposes is to me, more believable.
> If Sessions would allow himself to be portrayed as an incompetent boob by Trump publicly, Id be surprised.
If the storm comes off as planned, then Sessions would no longer be treated as a boob, but as one of the greatest Attorneys General in history.
> Trump continues to operate within the enemies OODA Loop.
That is definitely on display. If you’ll pardon the totally screwed up metaphor, he gets the ‘Rats chasing a squirrel to one side, while he dismantles the chicken coop they left unattended.
> force democrats to commit 110% to something ... (like the results of the election must be respected) and then turn it on them to his advantage.
The archetypal example is the whole Russia meme itself. Trump talked about cooperating with Putin during the campaign to lure the ‘Rats into proclaiming “Russian collusion” with Putin as the worst possible sin. Then, he turns the tables, having known/suspected all along that it was they who were colluding with Russia.
Very good observations.
Yes, it is hard to be patient. But we have to remember that it is God who is ultimately in charge.

I live a lot closer to the Chesapeake Bay than to the Pacific Ocean anyway.
Chorus: Come on, Nancy, put your best dress on.
Come on, Nancy, ‘fore the steamboats gone.
Everything is lovely on the Chesapeake Bay,
All aboard for Baltimore, and if we’re late they’ll all be sore!
Now look here, Captain, let us catch that boat.
We can’t swim, and listen, we can’t float!
Banjo’s strumming a good old tune,
Up on deck is the place to spoon.
Cuddle up close beneath the silv’ry moon,
Sailing down the Chesapeake Bay.

Trump never colluded with Russians. Russians never hacked the DNC. Seth Rich gave up the DNC files. ‘Somebody’ punished Seth Rich. The swamp is full of murdering pirates.
“The FBI has been corrupt since at least Ruby Ridge.”
The FBI has been corrupt since it’s inception.
J Edgar Hoover ran the Bureau of Investigations from 1924-1935.
A more powerful FEDERAL Bureau of Investigations was created in 1935 an Hoover ran the FBI until his death in 1972.
From 1924 to 1972 Hoover amassed information on every president, vice president, congressman, senator, bureaucrat and resident in DC. And he wasn’t above using illegal means to get the dirt he wanted.
He had influence in every administration from Coolidge to Nixon.
I have wondered who was more relieved when Hoover died....the crooks in the mob or the crooks in government?
Some believe Hoover was homosexual but everyone was so afraid of the records he kept on people that no one would out him.
Very well said!
Trump is just damn lucky that Team Mueller is self destructing (to a degree) over purloined emails and the revealing Peter Strzok conversations and texts to his in house paramour. McCabe has been exposed as 100% biased. Otherwise Trump would be in deep shyte. Trump is making clever moves but not playing any three D chess.
Mueller and his deep swamp underlings, his Democrat lawyers are far from done and are still a menace. But things look better for DJT than two months ago.
Totally agree. Whoever leaked those Strzok e-mails is the one who really helped turn things around. If they hadn’t been leaked I’m not convinced we would have ever seen them.
Trump interviewed Mueller for FBI director the very day before Mueller was offered the special counsel job by Rod Rosenstein.
Unless Trump was very badly briefed he knew Mueller’s past in detail before the interview.
A most curious part of that interview is that Mueller had already served a full term as FBI director. In fact he had been granted a 2 year extension beyond the mandatory 10 yr limit for that position.
So, on the surface we are to believe that Trump offered the top FBI job to a man who was term limited out of the position. And a man who is committed to Trump’s destruction.
That would be something only a fool would do.

This is what LS has been saying for a long time.
Sessions does not have a narcissistic character, which makes it more likely that he would allow himself to be portrayed as lazy in an elaborate scheme to get the swamp ready for draining.
bttt
Very close. But LS’ view of Mueller as of Dec 18 is closer to that of Imperator Rex than of Ashman. LS expects Mueller to issue a letter clearing Trump and to do so soon. Trump says the same for that matter.
