ROSEVILLE (CBS13) A Salvation Army bell ringer was attacked in front of Walmart for simply spreading holiday cheer.
Weve all heard it; the jingle that means its nearly Christmas and ringing in sounds of hope for donations.
But not everyone is in the giving spirit.
I greet everybody, 'Merry Christmas,' said Rev. Jamie Wolfe, Sr.
Sadly, those two simple words got this bell ringer knocked out.
He haymakered me, hit me, got me down on the ground and we started wrestling, at that point Im fighting for my life, Wolfe Sr. said.
The man wasnt after the kettle money, but instead, his cheer.
Definitely unexpected, he claimed.
It was a savage attack not even a Grinch could compare.
Store says they love him and hes been the best bell ringer theyve ever had, so an attack thats unprovoked is very surprising and very unfortunate. Its not the call wed expect to get at night, or ever said Lt. Steve Pavlakis with the Salvation Army.
Pavlakis has been with the organization for 14 years, and this hasnt happened.
Its really saddening that one of our bellringers would be out there working day after day for us thats met with hate and punches to the face and kicks to the face, Pavlakis said.
The reverend is shaken up and suffered bumps and bruises, but says this wont ever take away his Christmas spirit.
Its really rewarding, he said.
And you can bet that bell will keep on ringing.
Ill be right back out there doing it again tomorrow, Wolfe Sr. said.
He was checked out at Kaiser Permanente just in case.
Meanwhile, the suspect is still on the run. Police hope surveillance video can help put that man behind bars.
I don’t bother any more....................
“Militant white liberal”, California. I think it was that guy that wants to cut the trees by the golf course.
I usually stop and talk to these folks. They are wonderful. I used to save all my change and one year went and dumped it all in the kettle. It took about 5 minutes.
People don’t normally pop off unannounced. And how long does it take to look at a video?
We live in an area where the assailant would be destroyed by a mob for something like this.
I moved from the Gold Country foothills about 35 miles from Sacramento over 13 years ago. This is another reason WHY !!!
Some ringers are paid by SA so they will have a source of money. Our Kiwanis chapter adopts a few days for SA.
Liberal “tolerance” at its best. /s
Paid SA “kettle workers” receive minimum wage, no benefits, 1/2 hour lunch and two brief bathroom breaks.
Many of them are dealing with serious health issues—very dedicated and some of the finest people you will ever meet.
A male, maybe, but not a MAN.
That’s a hate crime, but won’t be prosecuted as such.
I had a bell ringer give me his patently overly enthusiastic "how 'bout a contribution Merry Christmas" greeting last weekend outside a store and I stopped and told him that for years I have contributed to the SA, but that this year I was going to send my contribution to Mar-a-Lago instead and help make up for some slippery organizations that stiffed that resort this year.
I don't think he got where I was going.
one of those open minded liberals, doing what they do.
“Militant white liberal, California. I think it was that guy that wants to cut the trees by the golf course.”
Wrong! The “trees business” in Palm Springs ( a city now run by Callifoirnia’s first “all queer” city council) was brought by the “ghetto residents” just the other side of the trees. They claim that the trees which were planted in the 1960’s as a windbreak for the golf course, were really planted to block the local “black community’s view of Mt, San Jacinto.” For me, it’s hard to imagine a “black ghetto” in Palm Springs, a queer city council, not so much.
But, you can't be too sure about that nowadays.
My Wife has been working retail for the past three Christmas Seasons.
She just told me this year is the first time People are saying Merry Christmas. She even said that Customers are saying things like “isn’t it nice that we can say Merry Christmas again?”.
I find that very telling. I wonder what has changed? LOL
“There is no war on Christmas” - the lying left, certified 114000000 times by Google.
A complete mystery......................
Im tired of calling them atheists
I think cristophobic bigot is a better term....
I like that. Christophobe.
