Californias Democrat-controlled legislature is considering a state version of Obamacares individual mandate to replace the one killed by President Trumps new tax reform bill. State Senator and Chair of the Senate Health Committee Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina) told the San Francisco Chronicle that the tax reform that passed both houses of Congress this week, which would eliminate the penalty for not buying health insurance, is projected to result in 1.7 million fewer Californians having health insurance over the next decade. Hernandez claimed that, All options are on the table if federal enforcement of the individual mandate ends.
The State of California is expected to lose nearly $1.3 billion a year in Obamacare penalties, due to the tax reform bill eliminating fines for uninsured individuals, and employers not signing up for health care
Covered California executive director Peter Lee suggested at a Dec. 7 board meeting that the Democrat-controlled California legislature should pass its own state-level individual mandate. He stated that there is a precedent for a state mandate from former Republican Massachusetts governor Mitt Romneys 2007 health care reform deal.

Trying to get more ‘revenue flow’ into their own government coffers....has nothing to do with Healthcare for the people.
You know its a good system when the government has to shove it down your throat.
Cal. is going to end up a debtor state at the rate their playing their cards.....of course perhaps that’s what they want....Ukraine Style.
I feel your pain, friend. I got myself and my family out of there twelve years ago. We made it to Texas with barely enough money to open a bank account.
The first few years were very tough, but we made it. So can you.
Good luck!

Because it was cash - he probably didn’t declare it on his taxes. More like making $150.

California should impose it.
“By the way $ 10,000 will get you an Amazing Amount of healthcare when you pay in CASH!!!”
I have the same situation. I had a hernia operation early this year. St. George Surgery Center. Showed up at 5AM, out by 11Am. $3,050 flat on the barrel head. Great service, one third the cost.
*AHEM* EXCUSE ME! I was dropped off in CA by Uncle Sam, stayed because of family and business considerations.
My wife and I plan on moving to the Texas Hill Country when we retire (hopefully in the not-too-distant-future.)
The only thing from CA that we will be bringing are the license plates (which will be replaced within the first week of being back in God’s Country).
That and a couple of CA-satirizing routines for my comedy/music show that I have already started coming up with.
(But I understand where you’re coming from. I DESPISE most of the critters around here, but in a state with almost 50 million people, there’s still a few of us who are sane...)
They’re so funny when they’re mad - little heads spinning around, pea soup spewing....
Arizona just passed 7 million in population. California’s march to communism will certainly speed our progress to 8 million.
lol...California is going to implement ANOTHER tax... wow.
It just gets better and better in this state.
I don’t know why SoCal hasn’t declared war on Sacramento.
Hey. Somebody has to pay to feed and medicate all of Mexico’s welfare cases.
And the Dems and GOPe decided that Californians are just the people to do it.
That too
