My name is Jasmine Lopez, Im 11 years old and Im a U.S. citizen. If Congress doesn't take action now, I may not have my mom with me for the holidays.
Why is this important for me? Because Ive already experienced something close to losing my dad, and I dont want that to happen ever again.
I was born in Florida, but both my parents were born in Mexico and are living in the U.S. undocumented. Even though they were always careful when driving to work or to the grocery store, one day things got real for all of us. My dad was detained while driving because he couldnt get a drivers license. Thankfully, we were able to get him out of detention so he wouldnt get deported.
As a kid in this country, I have the constitutional right to pursue happiness. But without a Dream Act that allows my mom to stay and doesn't hurt my dad, Im not fulfilling my right. Thats why, instead of writing a letter to Santa this year, I decided to write a letter to Congress and ask them to act now. Last week, I even flew to Washington D.C. to deliver my letter directly to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, but he wouldnt open the door for me.
My moms DACA expires on December 22nd, the exact same day as the deadline that Congress has to make a decision. Please, Congress, put in a vote. Allow my childhood to continue instead of ending it by separating my family.
All I want for Christmas is Congress to pass a clean Dream Act. It would be like a miracle for many immigrant families like mine.

So if an illegal breaks into my house and drops a kid then they can live there permanently? The kid also?
Don’t want to break up your family? Then go with them.
All I want is for them to not drive drunk and kill anyone
Boo Freaking Hoo.
Jasmine should want to stay with her parents, no matter where they live.
Anchor babies — just ANOTHER DemocRAT creation to generate votes.
He can’t because....ta-da....Mexico has a strict immigration policy and they enforce it
Nobody wants to separate an 11 year old from her parents. You will go home with them.
There's absolutely no good reason for this child to be separated from her mother. When the mom gets deported the kid needs to go with her.
Sure, that reads like it was written by an 11 year-old.
Read anything lately by a college grad? They don’t write that well on average.
This is child abuse.
>> they were always careful when driving
They should have been careful about not crossing the US border illegally.
Being careful when driving is just normal behavior, not something to hold up as a major virtue.
If they go back to Mexico, Jasmine will not need to worry about deportation. Problem solved!
News Flash! If both your parents are Mexican citizens, then YOU'RE a Mexican citizen too. GO HOME!!!
So they need to go back to Mexico, and you should go with them. I really don't want to break up your family.
Jasmine:
Americans are really mean and nasty. You really don’t want to live here—honest!
Go with your parents.
She can just go with her and viola the problem is solved.
Jasmine can join her illegal parents back down in mexico tben.
Blame your parents, not the US for your plight.
Go with them! I spent a number of Christmases in countries other then the US with my parents and found it very enriching.
Then when you turn 18 you can come back.
And every year you can fly down to visit them. Won't that be FUN!
And you will never have to worry about them being deported because they will be in the country where they belong legally.
Have a nice flight!
Hugs and Kisses
