former Arizona police officer was acquitted Thursday of a murder charge in the 2016 fatal shooting of an unarmed man outside his hotel room as officers were responding to a call that someone there was pointing a gun out a window.
The verdict cleared Philip Mitchell Brailsford, 27, of criminal liability in the 2016 death of Daniel Shaver of Granbury, Texas.

The judge did not allow jurors to hear about an etching on the dust cover of the rifle Brailsford used to shoot Shaver, which said “You’re f—ked,” because he felt it was prejudicial.
I hope the family sues the cop and any related government departments they can into oblivion.
In fact, it was execution by a bad cop.
What the heck did the officer need an AR-15 for that situation?
Every old school police officer I know would have been embarrassed to even have pulled a sidearm to deal with that situation.
Seems a lot of the current generation of tacticool LEOs have a very different view of law enforcement than the old guard

Yea first he tells him to put his hands up and don't move or he will be shot. "Don't lower your hands or I will kill you". then he orders him to crawl towards him. WELL WHICH IS IT?
The only way he can crawl is to put his hands on the ground!
I did 25 years as an LEO, that was not a good shoot.
Those kind of conflicting instructions would be hard to follow even under normal circumstances. But with a gun pointed at your head? Who know how any of us would react?

I don’t know why one officer didn’t frisk the woman and clear her and then go to the man to frisk him.
I am not trained in such situations but it appeared that both were willing to cooperate with the police officers.
He comes across as a clown that wanted to brag to family and friends that he had to kill someone.
The problem is that unless you are a cop you do not understand the things they have been exposed to that make them perhaps a bit too fast on the trigger. They want to go home safe & sound at the end of their shift too. The investigator noted he did not see anything that would have prevented officers from simply handcuffing Shaver as he was on the floor.
What really surprises me is the fact that a jury found him not guilty. But all in all it is a tough call either way.
Bottom line for me is that this person does not need to be in law enforcement.

I don’t care what makes a cop a bit too fast on the trigger when they kill an innocent person due to their Barney Fife idiocy. No sympathy whatsoever, it was murder, the guy (questionable) deserves not just removal from the force but prison time.
Furthermore, he worked for a pest control company and was on the road traveling to big retail stores like Wal-Marts and Lowes and Home Depots as part of his job in order to shoot birds using a pellet gun – yes a pellet gun.
Evidently he was showing the guy he made just had made an acquaintance with, his pellet gun and was unfortunately standing near an open window in his hotel room when someone outside saw what they thought was a rifle or an “assault weapon” and called the police who of course went into a hyper military and full out swat team assault mode even though no shots had been fired and no threats had been made.
The police on the scene were in full assault Swat team full out militaristic mode even as the situation didn’t warrant it. The cop who shot him was also from what I saw in the video was yelling conflicting and confusing orders to the guy who was scared out of his wits and begging for his life. Get your hands up, get your hands down, crawl on your hands and knees…
He was ordered to crawl on his hands and knees toward the officer, which really makes no sense to me. Once he was down on the ground, why couldn’t the cop(s) have come up and detained him and searched him for a weapon. Furthermore, the guy was wearing nothing more than a tee shirt and flimsy gym shorts. It was pretty obvious to me that those clothes were not conducive to hiding a weapon and when he was asked to crawl that his shorts were coming down as they did he rather instinctively tried to pull them up, again maybe not the best choice he could have made but then in the confusion of the situation and perhaps being a bit inebriated, understandable. He was begging for his life.
That the cop felt threated and felt the need to shoot? OK perhaps. But 5 times and at close range with an AR15 that from what I understand was his own personal weapon, not even a police issued weapon and with a dust cover that was engraved with the words “You’re f—ked,”?
This was IMO not a good or justified shooting. This cop was a shoot first and ask questions never type. “I felt threatened and had to put 5 bullets into a guy on his hands and knees while begging for his life, just doesn’t cut it.

It should have been allowed as it went to the state of mind of the cop who IMO murdered this guy in cold blood. From what I understand of the case, the guy had been drinking at the hotel bar and met a couple who he invited to come “party” in his room. Was that perhaps bad judgement on his part? Perhaps. But was it criminal? No.

The officer ordered the victim to “crawl” towards him. In common usage, the word “crawl” involves being on one’s hands and knees. Except apparently the officer wanted him to shuffle over on his knees with his hands still in the air, in which case the officer should have communicated this clearly. I wonder if passing high school English is even a job requirement for Arizona police.
He won't be working for a small municipality. He'll soon be with the TSA.
I hope that that ex-cop’s last moments are spent in abject fear and confusion.

You could tell by the officer’s voice he was on a power trip. That’s just not how you talk to or treat people — especially people that are still considered innocent.
