Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican who is among the most conservative members of the House, said he would resign his seat after House officials learned that he had asked two female employees to bear his children as surrogates.
Frankss announcement came as the House Ethics Committee said it would create a special subcommittee to investigate Franks for conduct that constitutes sexual harassment and/or retaliation for opposing sexual harassment.
His resignation, which Franks said is effective Jan. 31, will end the ethics investigation........

Could be although my bet would be the Trump brigade.
Also, nobody should ask anybody to participate in adultery. Nobody should ask anybody to participate in fornication.
These simple guidelines would wipe out almost all the situations currently in the news.
For those remaining, involving strictly single people with an interest in marriage, we have, "Don't ask your boss, don't ask your subordinate." If you're really crazy about a co-worker, find a new job, and then ask him/her out with a view toward a lifetime of ... er ... working off your Purgatorial burden.
“bear his children”?
I believe he was inquiring about being a surrogate — typically handled via equipment in a doctors office. No sex. Maybe it’s “unusual”, but I would expect that he and his wife would prefer a surrogate they know and trust as opposed to some women an attorney might dredge up.
About 30 years ago, a married couple who worked in my department learned he wasn’t able to procreate. They asked my best friend’s husband if he would be a sperm donor for their child. In the end, he declined, but was a bit flattered that they thought that much of him.
Unless sex was mentioned or suggested by Franks, I don’t see anything more than a slight “ick” factor here.
“Another former staffer with knowledge of the situation interviewed on Carlson said she thought it was odd but did not think it was anywhere near harassment. She thought he should not have resigned. She said Franks and his wife were having problems having kids and she thought he only discussed the possibility of surrogacy in general terms, did not specifically ask them to do it.”
Correct. I saw that as well. She did say that he did not specifically ask them to do it.
Trent Franks gets a 90 rating on Heritage Action Scorecard. His replacement should be equally conservative.
When our politicians are spending their time asking their staff to be a sperm recipient, then it is way past time for that politician to go.
This is another sad example how corrupted the government has become.
DRAIN THE SWAMP.
Too, too bad. I like him.
Maybe he should have resolved the matter with his hand, instead of creeping out the staffers.
Sigh. I guess that means I’m weird. I hate that.
“His former female CoS said today that the Franks were unable to have children and Franks wife was the problem. Evidently, Franks asked two of his staffers if they would be interested in being surrogates so the Franks could have a family.”
That is not what she said. I saw the interview. She said he discussed the topic in general terms, but did not specifically ask them to do it. Whether that’s true, or not, I don’t know, but that is what she said when interviewed by Tucker Carlson.
Ok, now feeling less weird. :-)
I guess my thing is, where do you draw the line? Someone almost got kissed by Al Franken 20 years ago. Ok, gross because it's Franken, but isn't kissing a game of chance anyway?
You think someone wants to be kissed and you go for it, but you were wrong. Ok, it's just a missed kiss.
Then 20 years later you lose your job.
Im with you Mrs Don-o!
Putting another mans semen in yourself is just adultery imo I know! We are supposed to pity the childless- and I do.. but not to that point. Adopt!
Whos s man supposed to ask? A total stranger?
Or someone he knows and trusts?
Bow its uncomfortable for both when a woman turns a man down for a date. So if uncomfortable is the new standard, then good luck to all
Yeah, he knew them.
They also worked for him.
This so unusual that I doubt the original message or its intent is anywhere close to what is being reported.
No “special subcommittee” for democrats?
“Creepy is more like it. Ask among your family, at your church, but not in the office”
OH YEAH,,, ask around the church, or your female relatives. That’s WAY less creepy! lol
On the lighter side it reminds me of a classic pickup-line from a randy dude
"I want you to bare my child"
I wish these guys wouldn’t fold at the first sign of intimidation.
He did nothing wrong, all the women had to say was no. He probably felt close to his staff, discussed his problems having children in the past.
This is getting downright ridiculous.
In fact, now that I think of it, this is probably the establishment plan. Push Al Frankin out so GOP creeps like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnel can push out real conservatives. They’re going to make America pay for ignoring them on Moore.
Wish to hell conservatives would fight back.
Surrogacy is common, and life affirming; it’s a gracious gift to the infertile for those with the heart to do it.
There’s no sexual aspect to this, so there’s not a marriage/family morality issue.
For a man asking around about willingness, among those women he knows well — that’s not odd, that’s indicative that these others knew something more about his wife and family, and he was making queries; likely asking “Would you, or do you maybe know someone who might, be willing to consider this?”
the nature of the question, and how it’s going to be taken, are things that very much depend upon the relationship between the two parties: the one asking and the other being asked.
Between acquaintances, the query would be importune.
Between long-time co-workers decently acquainted with more closeted details of each others’ lives and families — no, not so much.
