Naval Station Newport is home to the Naval War College and the Naval Justice School. Approximately 5,800 employees work at the 50 various commands located on Naval Station with an additional 17,000 students annually passing through one of the many schools on base. NAVSTA is now home to the Navy Supply Corps School, the Center for Service Support and the U.S. Marine Corps Aviation Logistics School Newport is also the home of the Navys most prestigious educational institution, the Naval War College. As the oldest such institution in continuous existence anywhere in the world, the college is organized to pursue and integrate both academic and research endeavors. Each year approximately 600 outstanding mid-career level officers of the Navy, all other U.S. services, civilian federal agencies and international naval officers come here to pursue a rigorous 10-month course of postgraduate studies. Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN) is the largest officer accessions point in the Navy with a mission to prepare Sailors and Marines through enduring professional and personal development to lead as officers in the fleet. OTCN currently delivers five separate Officer Accession/Indoctrination programs and provides oversight to three of the Navys technical training facilities. Jesus Loves Maysel
December 5, 2017
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us.
1 John 4:10
When my sister Maysel was little, she would sing a familiar song in her own way: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells Maysel. This irritated me to no end! As one of her older, wiser sisters, I knew the words were me so, not Maysel. Yet she persisted in singing it her way.
Now I think my sister had it right all along. The Bible does indeed tell Maysel, and all of us, that Jesus loves us. Over and over again we read that truth. Take, for example, the writings of the apostle John, the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 21:7, 20). He tells us about Gods love in one of the best-known verses of the Bible: John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John reinforces that message of love in 1 John 4:10: This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Just as John knew Jesus loved him, we too can have that same assurance: Jesus does love us. The Bible tells us so.
Dear Lord, thank You for the assurance that You love us. We are filled with gratitude that You love us so much that You died for us.
Jesus loves me! This I know.
Do you wish you could believe God loves you? Or does the thought seem childish and self-centered?
John, the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 13:23), must have heard his Teacher say that only those who become like a little child would enter the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 18:24). John took those words personally, but didnt apply them just to himself. He wrote about the Father who loves all of us (John 3:16; 1 John 4:1416). With great maturity and childlike certainty he reminds us that believing God is love and loves us personally is what gives us reason to love Him and one another.

My brother Joe went OCS at Newport, earned his commission in two long summers while getting his physics degree. Took me 4 years at Texas A&M , as it did my other brother John. Years later, the youngest of us finished US Navy Academy in 4 years.

My sweet mother-in-law, Dulcie, has been living with us for a little over two weeks. She was in rehab for congestive heart failure and shortness of breath, but when her time was up there and she couldn’t go back to her apartment, we made the decision to have her come stay with us.
Since then, everything seemed to be going well until about three days ago, and she gradually has gone into a decline. Can’t sit up, doesn’t want to eat, has lots of pain but can’t articulate where. When she started sleeping nearly all the time and was talking in her sleep and calling out in pain, we asked the home health nurse what we should do.
She suggested Home Hospice, so after discussing it with her other son, we made the decision to go with that. We’ve done what we could to make her stay as comfortable and happy as possible, but I think it’s the best choice for her comfort and ease of the pain she’s in. Please pray for her in this, probably the last and most serious stage of her long sweet life of 96 years. She knows she’s loved by many.

Dear LUV, I am sorry you are going through this.
Prayers for this to be a time of love and comfort for your loved one and family, a time to treasure every moment together.

I will share a prayer for Dulcie tonight. 96 is a long life. My mom is 93, still living independently. But I appreciate just how old that is.
