ABC News president James Goldston excoriated staff Monday over Brian Ross' major error on a report about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and announced that Ross, the network's chief investigative reporter, will no longer cover stories related to President Trump.
Goldston also told staffers that the network was conducting a "full review" of the error and its aftermath.
Ross had initially reported Friday morning that Flynn was prepared to testify that Donald Trump as a candidate had instructed him to reach out to the Russians. Ross said more than seven hours later on "World News Tonight" that his information was actually that Flynn was prepared to testify Trump made the request as president-elect. On Saturday evening, ABC News said Ross had been suspended for four weeks without pay for what it termed the "serious error."
During ABC News' morning editorial call Monday, audio of which was obtained by CNN, Goldston excoriated his staff for the error.
"I don't think ever in my career have I felt more rage and disappointment and frustration that I felt through this weekend and through the last half of Friday," Goldston said.
"I don't even know how many times we've talked about this, how many times we have talked about the need to get it right," he added. "That how we have to be right and not first. About how in this particular moment, with the stakes as high as these stakes are right now, we cannot afford to get it wrong."

Although the Market was pretty much unaffected from the opening to the close, I would think ABC would be liable to a Class Action lawsuit on behalf of anyone who happened to put a 'sell' order in at the time Ross dropped his turd on the Market. His comment would have needlessly cost them a chunk of cash (and emotional distress).
So what if Trump had asked him to “reach out”? We are not at war with Russia. There would be a problem only if the conversation was part of a conspiracy.
I was there Goldston, so just give me the Christmas month off too.........Happy Holidays!
Brian Ross is like Harvey Weinstein in his assault on Conservatives and the truth. Journalistic harrasment is what it is, and they are so used to no one fighting back, they don’t know what to do. A week in Journal rehab ought to help Brian. The heads of the organizations are just like those protecting the harrasers too. They knew.
Why hasnt Ross been fired?
As shes updated the entire news group.
So why not just FIRE ROSS? Duh!
Here’s what I don’t get, Ross and all the rest of these rats are nothing more than teleprompter readers. so who creates the crap they read on their screens?
“excoriated”: Be more careful with your lies people!
Ross and his editors need to be fired. Ross didn’t make a mistake, HE LIED, and this is not the first time he’s done something like this.
About time. I wonder when CNN and the NYT will come around?
If your source burns you, you burn your source. If Ross wasn’t part of the conspiracy, he’d name the ‘source’ that lied to him.
That ias a serious proposal. I understand a class of investors was dammaged. The market fell on a lie inflicted with intent and Billions may have been lost depending on timing. I assure you that a class is being assembled as we speak.
This is what happens when you encourage your staff to be partisan.
I dont recall Democraps being upset with Ted Kennedy communicating with the Russians to defeat Reagan in 1984.
[C]lowns [I]n [A]merica
Flynn just solved his money issues fighting this nonsense.
CNN is given the audio to allow ABC to virtue-signal. You mean this doesn’t make you all warm and fuzzy about this unfortunate incident?
Exactly.
And without disciplining editors and management this will continue.
Who made profitable trades on the cusp of that announcement?
“Why hasnt Ross been fired?”
You think he should be fired? That’s so harsh. I think that being handed a 4-week vacation over the Christmas holidays is punishment enough. {s}
