New York Giants defensive end Olivier Vernon ignited an outcry after telling fans if they dont approve of his decision to kneel for the national anthem, dont come to the game.
The retort came after Vernon, the only member of the Giants still regularly taking a knee, told reporters that he had been heckled by fans in response to his season-long protest.
You hear coward and stand up and disgrace, Vernon said. Its fine. As long as nobody comes on the field and touches me. You stay where you at, youre going to be all right. They have a right. Oh yeah, I hear it all the time. If they dont like it, dont come to the game.
His comments, which ran Thursday in the New York Post, stunned former NFL quarterback and CBS Sports commentator Boomer Esiason, who called them an out-and-out disgrace.
He pointed out that Vernon signed last year an $85 million, five-year contract with Giants owner John Mara, the richest for a defensive end in NFL history.
Here is a guy you gave $80 million to basically telling your fans, If you dont like it, dont come, said Esiason on WFAN radio in New York City. It is the most egregious act of defiance. It just blows me away.

Do they get the picture? I typically spent a couple thousand a year on the NFL because I enjoyed watching GAMES. Since theyve decided to become the SJW league none of my money will be going to them, and as little as possible to advertisers ( thats YOU Papa John, Anheiser Busch etc)
Have no fear Oliy, You will NEVER see me at your clown gathering, EVER.
How can any team justify paying that much for any player? That’s why I gave up on professional sports a long time ago.I am an avid fan or college level and amateur sports.

Go to hell, America-hating bastard.
Once again, the lemming-like tribalist antics of the kneeling kneegroes of the NFL have successfully transformed them into little more than modern-day lawn jockeys, who are carrying the water of cultural destruction on behalf of the America-hating “progressive” left
It’s simply stunning how an entire race of people can be so easily tricked and manipulated into maladaptive antisocial behavior. They are pathetic, but always reliable useful idiots and two-bit actors who are yet again being co-opted to serve a globalist ideological master that they’ll never comprehend.
Why are these NFL owners letting these low IQ thugs destroy their business. Would Hollywood allow an actor to say such about a movie they’re starring in?
Bad assumption.
Old habits die hard. And in case you hadn't noticed, the vast majority of NFL players—whether black or white—don't kneel for the national anthem...
Great advice ,, and many , many good folks are heeding his advice . We will protest the protesters on Sunday , Monday and Thursday as your advice is taken to heart .
Check, baws
Naturally, the NFL owners are too damned stupid to realize that Roger Goodell is killing the game and the league. Oh, well. They have nobody to blame but themselves.
By the look of things around the NFL, it appears fans are doing just that — avoiding the game.
I hope the NFL and these players suffer painfully over all this.
Players don't give a tinker's dam about those folks, do they...
An excellent point.
A spoiled millionaire spitting on the little people in the stands—not only the fans, but the stadium workers as well.
This moron Olivier Vernon should be fined and suspended for "conduct detrimental to the league".
If Commissioner Goodell and the NFL team owners don't discipline Olivier Vernon for this, Goodell might as well castrate himself, put his balls in a mason jar, and place them on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio...
Way ahead of you, pal.
New Coke.
Goodell is supposed to be so smart (according to the owners who think him a genius over sunday ticket, fantasy revenue, etc) the players need a contract clause that modifies their pay by the leagues gross. It’s the only way to get a numbskull like Vernon on program.
The give backs on advertising are going to be huge this year. The ads not bought or at a reduced rate next year will be staggering. The lack of Christmas gifts. The non-renewals (me) for seasons tickets. Vernon got paid assuming revenue x but its going to .9x and he and the stupid players are the reason why. It’s the only way.
House painting.
Aren’t they though?
The NFL (players AND management) are so incredibly tunnel-visioned. They, no doubt, are “waiting us out”, thinking once this passes the fans will return. In what other business can the EMPLOYEES lead management around by the nose?
Nope. Not gonna happen.
NFL has jumped the shark, feel off their motorcycle and are now being eaten by said shark.
IT. IS. GLORIOUS!
Yesterday Marcus Peters of the Chiefs defiantly picked up a referee’s flag and threw it into the stands. In a different time, with a different Commissioner, that player would be barred from ever playing the game again. Such an infraction against a referee in most any other sport is about the most egregious violation a player can commit.
I will be very curious to see how the NFL responds to this. If they do nothing, or very little, it will tell me that it’s over, the players really have seized control of the NFL and the death spiral will continue as more acts of outrage and defiance will likely be repeated.
