Yesterday Marcus Peters of the Chiefs defiantly picked up a referee’s flag and threw it into the stands. In a different time, with a different Commissioner, that player would be barred from ever playing the game again. Such an infraction against a referee in most any other sport is about the most egregious violation a player can commit.

I will be very curious to see how the NFL responds to this. If they do nothing, or very little, it will tell me that it’s over, the players really have seized control of the NFL and the death spiral will continue as more acts of outrage and defiance will likely be repeated.

Not only that, but he was NOT ejected from the game! He left the field in the company of a coaching staff member, probably thinking he was out, but returned later. Not ejected due to protective coloration?
