Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Cokie Roberts made a startling admission: "every female in the press corps knew" to avoid being in an elevator with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), and has apparently known about this "for years." Conyers has been accused of multiple instances of sexual harassment and has stepped down from the House Judiciary Committee.
Despite the allegations against him, major players in the Democratic Party have defended Conyers and will not say that he should resign. Pelosi even referred to the embattled congressman as an "icon."
Roberts was discussing the current culture on Capitol Hill with Martha Raddatz and Anna Palmer. Roberts said that while this has been the status quo for decades, she believes that things could change now that people are coming public with their experiences.
"The fact that people are willing to be public can change things. I mean, we all talked about for years," said Roberts.
Further, Roberts says that it "does make a difference" now that women are not being shy about this kind of misconduct. Roberts implied that Conyers' predatory behavior was an open secret among the press corps.
"Dont get in the elevator with him, you know, and the whole every female in the press corps knew that, right, dont get in elevator with him," said Roberts. She continued, "Now people are saying it out loud. And I think that does make a difference."
It's disturbing that this kind of behavior could continue on for so long without anyone doing anything to stop it. Riding an elevator with a member of the opposite sex, especially a member of the opposite sex who is a member of Congress, should always be a safe endeavor. While I'm glad that something is finally being done, this should never be tolerated for this long ever again.
Aack!!! That post should come with a double bag barf alert!!! Looks like Perry Farrell in drag!
Yuck! Blech! Ptooey!!
I thought she died.
The pathetic era of “me too” journalism.
The MSM is the Country’s greatest threat.
Rep. Rosa DeLauro: The reason alcohol was invented.
All well and good for the press corps women who were warned. What about all the women who suffered his violations because you didn’t tell everyone else, Cokie? When did you stop caring about women who don’t have press credentials?
The Dems have always protected each other, but I’m sensing a Defcon 2 level of hand wringing here.
I’m betting Conyers has made it knowm to ALL his fellow harassers, that if he goes....he’s taking the rest of them with him.
This article is wrong in targeting Conyers. The video and transcript show that Cokie Roberts was talking about a generic “him”, not specifically Conyers.
It's a pity none of them were journalists.
Let's not forget, folks, that Cokie is the Godmother of Fake News. On Jan. 26, 1994, World News Tonight anchorman Peter Jennings in New York switched to Roberts in Washington for a discussion of President Clinton's State of the Union address delivered the previous night. Jennings said Roberts was ''at Capitol Hill'' and Roberts was seen standing in front of the Capitol wearing an overcoat. Roberts, apparently pressed for time, did the standup from a studio a few blocks away.
I hope an at the time 20 yr. Old intern comes forward that Conyers molested her
Then lays it right at Cokie’s feet that it happened because political whores like her covered for him to be assured of “special access” to the Congresscritters and the Foggy bottom social scene.
I like the sound of it: Complicity Roberts.
It is called political camouflage.
Cookie loves to burnish her long-since-tarnished insider cred...,..”Oh, yeah. We insiders knew all about that.”
Exposes the whole Washington press corp as complicit.
Of geeze.
Hypocrites ALL!!!!!!
Please.....
She knew....and SAID NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need bleach..or chlorine..or something!!
But of course as a good little Democrat media operative Cokie you said nothing - disgusting swine!!
To hell with every “feminist” who supports Democrats.
