FLASHBACK: Mike Pence won't dine alone with a woman who's not his wife. Is that sexist?
LA Times ^

Last week, the Washington Post profiled second lady Karen Pence, a devout Christian and devoted wife who is, as the story put it, her husband’s “prayer warrior,” “gut check” and “shield.”

Ashley Parker, the reporter, noted that Vice President Mike Pence once had told The Hill, a political newspaper and website, that he never dines with women alone, nor does he attend functions without his wife if alcohol is being served.

This tidbit popped off the page like a spark from a burning log. Twitter, which is always highly combustible, exploded.

Was this a sign of marital devotion and respect? Or a signal that the Pences don’t trust Mike Pence to be alone with a woman? Or perhaps don’t trust a woman to be alone with Mike Pence?

***that he never dines with women alone,***

Smart move. I will always remember the come-on line to advertisements for Ann Margaret in KITTEN WITH A WHIP when she took John Forsythe hostage.

“All I have to do is mess my hair and scream! One look at me and WHO WOULD BELIEVE YOU!”

Smart move on his part but what a sad state of affairs. Sure doesn’t speak well for women.

Now that we’re all gender-fluid, treacherous men can abound as well.

My personal policy applies across-the-board. Men, women, children, the same rule applies to all.

The only time I can’t maintain the rule is when I am meeting with my own boss. But those instances are rare, and more often than not we meet in a common area which is generally visible.

It also helps to arrive at group functions exactly on time, so you are entering a room with many other people, and leaving as soon as possible, before the group breaks up.

Exactly the slander used against him by the feminists.

“This practice unfairly limits wymynz.”

Hell no it’s not sexist ... its smart! With today’s toxic DC atmosphere, he’s the only smart one standing.

All the men in leadership at my church exercise that same policy and even go one further, no door is ever closed in the leader's offices, except when in marital or premarital counseling and both parties are present or in board or committees, where there the meetings are recorded, lest anyone be attempted at an impropriety.

This also serves to thwart any accusations by those who would tear down the mission of the faithful and unfortunately, this has happened, as I am sure happens in other bible believing churches.

The de-genderizing left may call it sexist, but so what?

For many years now, all student and employee counselling with females must be with open doors AND in high traffic locations. Never closed door unless at least one other female unrelated to the incident or event the counselling is being done for is in the room.

Protects all parties.

Good advice. I knew the 8th CMSAF Sam Parish, hosting him at several dining out’s where he was our speaker. He made it a point of refusing to dance with anyone if his wife was not with him. Smart man!

What is a counseling session? Were you a chaplain?

Since rjsimmon said it was the Marine Corps, the sensitive counseling being taught probably started with:

"Unass your head, jackwagon, and start flying straight.."

The GEICO commercial where R. Lee Ermey plays a counselor comes to mind.

This is commanded of Jews. Only the orthodox follow these commandments though. It’s a good idea for public figures who are targets for blackmail, for sure. If you are NEVER alone with a woman, you won’t even need to pay go away lawsuit money. Take her to court because no one can prove what did not happen.

Also goes to show that many things deemed “sexist” and “old fashioned” actually existed to protect women.

Much of what “women’s lib” accomplished was actually giveing predatory men easy access to their prey.

Nick, sorry I did not answer sooner. A counseling session can be any number of things, primarily to discuss performance of duties where Pro/Con (proficiency/conduct) marks are given to junior Marines or fitness reports on NCO's. Or it can be when a Marine has strayed from the pack and needs to be adjusted prior to non-judicial or criminal punishments being meted out.

Pence is looking like a genius for this after the last couple of weeks.

No kidding. With all the poop hitting the fan, these days, it's a splendid way of ensuring that none of it gets on him.

“Everyone’s guilty of something!!”

And so the Left discovers “original sin” and “total depravity”.

I’ve concluded “conservatism” is the realizing that some social lessons were learned at great cost, held to even if we don’t understand because the cost of re-learning is so high.

I’m seeing now that the Left abandoned those lessons, and decades later are suddenly re-learning them at great cost.

Pence is smarter and more prudent than a batch of DC swamp dwellers.

Give Mr. Pence more credit. A bucket of horse manure is smarter and more prudent than a batch of DC swamp dwellers.
