FLASHBACK: Mike Pence won't dine alone with a woman who's not his wife. Is that sexist?
LA Times ^

Last week, the Washington Post profiled second lady Karen Pence, a devout Christian and devoted wife who is, as the story put it, her husband’s “prayer warrior,” “gut check” and “shield.”

Ashley Parker, the reporter, noted that Vice President Mike Pence once had told The Hill, a political newspaper and website, that he never dines with women alone, nor does he attend functions without his wife if alcohol is being served.

This tidbit popped off the page like a spark from a burning log. Twitter, which is always highly combustible, exploded.

Was this a sign of marital devotion and respect? Or a signal that the Pences don’t trust Mike Pence to be alone with a woman? Or perhaps don’t trust a woman to be alone with Mike Pence?

You never have to try to unring a bell that has no clapper. (No, not you James)

The Pences adopted a smart personal policy.

As events have evolved, the Vice-President would have been a premier target of sexual misconduct charges by one or more money-seeking, lying accusers because of his open Christian beliefs.

He would never be alone with a woman who wasn’t his wife, not only just at dinner.

This is orthodox Judaism 101, no seclusion with a woman who is not one’s wife.

Curious - - is this a common practice of any Christian sect or just the VP kicking it old-(Testament) school?

I believe I read that the Reverend Billy Graham exercised this same kind of restraint.

If only Jack Hyles had had the same rule, he might have had a better legacy.

Of course it’s sexist. But for some it is absolutely essential. Life is sexist.

Religion has nothing to do with it. Common sense is prevailing.

The Democrat liars can bring no false allegations if Pence is never alone with conniving whores that lie for money

Is it sexist?

Perhaps, but for a politician subject to scandal accusations, it is also prudent.

It’s smart

I’ tend to follow that logic myself actually

Though back when I had a full time gal I took he to lunch

We were buddies and she liked me but I never abused the relationship of boss and employee

Never

But she was built ..whew

She ran off with a friend of mine to the wilds of Kentucky

I like to bring my wife to serious business meetings anyhow

She charms men and chills women

It works

Ramifications of not being alone with a woman ... means Pence have a confidential conversation with a woman. That certainly puts Pence and women at a disadvantage in the game of politics.

Pence is looking like a genius for this after the last couple of weeks. With the "believe all accusers" rule now in place, best be careful.

Given the pace of sexual allegations, and who is suffering the most (media/pols) I am starting to believe this campaign has organization behind it. Is it, for example, Trump and Sessions loosely releasing info via DoJ? For that reason, I believe Pence's statement was done strategically, as a kick-off, or with purpose, knowing what was coming later.

Or am I in tinfoil hat territory?

So he’s done this since gaining high office? Or an office high enough to be targeted?

In other words— Did you hear/do you know that to be the case with the VP? (That he never dines alone with a woman other than his wife— for political reasons only?)

About 15 years ago a colleague of mine, a brilliant female electronics engineer, used to insist upon office doors being left open during one-on-one meetings. I found it strange at the time; but now, with recent events, I have come to fully understand her “pre-emptive” philosophy. Yes, a woman well ahead of her time.

My dad traveled with several super hot secretaries in his career having a contracting biz nation wide and private multi engines

One became my first love and boy she was a peach....does Arkansas have peaches?

Several were smoking

My miss mississippi mom trusted him rightfully

But boy my wife wouldn’t let me do that

Only one time did my mom. Put her foot down

Hard too....110 stiletto

And that secretary was gone crying gathering her stuff cleaning her desk

Mom knew when they had aims

I always thought this was more about not having some lib woman accuse him of sex harassment. He is indeed looking like a genius for having this policy.

I took a training course for volunteers at my local church 25 years ago. The crux of the training was to never put yourself in a position when you are alone with anybody who can later say you behaved in an inappropriate fashion, with a particular emphasis on children. It was not couched as protecting the children so much as designing safeguards for everybody involved, which consisted primarily of meeting in open settings or always having at least two volunteers present when dealing with anybody.

It was good training and good advice. I applied those lessons to my life in general, and have never regretted it for a minute. I have had to avoid some situations, but there has never been any problem that I could not work around.

I would argue the reason is not political but rather applied common sense.

Treacherous women abound and when there are three, there can not be treacherous accusation

Avoiding the appearance of impropriety, which is a prerequisite for all leadership in all fields.

Hate to add this extra little bit but . . .

DUH!!!

How obtuse the MSM can be sometimes.

Maybe Charlie Rose can do a story on Mike Pence respecting his wife.
